DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work directly with individuals experiencing challenges related to substance use and mental health by supporting their personal growth through non-clinical means.
  • Support clients in developing coping and life skills, emotional resilience, and a stronger connection to themselves and nature through immersive outdoor experiential activities.
  • Lead and facilitate a variety of on-site and off-site experiential and expressive activities, including team-building exercises, group initiatives, mindfulness practices, nature-based interventions, and creative workshops.
  • Design and implement activities that encourage healing, personal growth, trust, teamwork, and self-confidence, incorporating nature-based approaches.
  • Create and maintain a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment for clients to engage in self-exploration and growth.
  • Collaborate with clinical and residential teams to support a holistic approach to client care.
  • Observe and provide feedback on clients’ engagement and progress during activities to support their overall development.
  • Facilitate outdoor adventures and team-building exercises such as hiking, surfing, climbing, fishing, canoeing, and similar activities.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants during all activities and experiences.
  • Assist with conflict resolution and provide support during challenging situations as needed.
  • Monitor and observe client participation, activity details, and progress, ensuring clear communication and collaboration with the team.

Education / Experience Qualifications

  • Experience in designing, planning, and/or leading adventure-based and experiential activities, both indoors and outdoors.
  • High school degree required. College degree preferred but not required; relevant experience or certifications will be considered. Degrees in psychology, counseling, outdoor education, or related fields are a plus.
  • Certifications such as Certified Adventure Therapist (CAT) and/or Wilderness and Adventure Therapy (WAT) are preferred but not mandatory.
  • Current certification in First Aid and CPR is required.
  • Strong passion for working in a nature-based, healing-focused environment.
  • For candidates in recovery, one to two years of continuous sobriety is preferred.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Demonstrable level of personal fitness is required including facilitation of and participation in physical activities such as hiking, walking, camping, and other recreational activities
  • Frequent standing and walking.
  • Frequent lifting, pushing/pulling, reaching/stretching, bending/stooping, and repetitive motions
  • This is a safety sensitive position.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Understanding of substance use and mental health disorders and their treatment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong knowledge of outdoor survival skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate groups.
  • Physical ability to participate in and lead outdoor activities.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive to remote locations.
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends.
