Position Overview
The Insurance Verification Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the insurance verification team to ensure timely and accurate verification of patient insurance coverage. This role supervises staff, monitors performance, implements process improvements, and ensures compliance with regulatory and payer guidelines. The supervisor acts as a liaison between front-end staff, billing departments, and payers to minimize claim denials and support revenue cycle efficiency.

The Insurance Verification Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the insurance verification team to ensure timely and accurate verification of patient insurance coverage. This role supervises staff, monitors performance, implements process improvements, and ensures compliance with regulatory and payer guidelines. The supervisor acts as a liaison between front-end staff, billing departments, and payers to minimize claim denials and support revenue cycle efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise, train, and support the insurance verification team to ensure accuracy and productivity standards are met
- Monitor daily workflow and redistribute tasks as needed to maintain turnaround time goals
- Ensure timely and accurate verification of patient insurance benefits, including eligibility, authorizations, and pre-certifications
- Identify and resolve issues related to payer policies, coverage gaps, or authorization delays
- Work closely with scheduling, registration, billing, and clinical teams to support a seamless patient experience
- Review and analyze verification errors, denials, and trends to implement corrective actions and training
- Maintain and update payer guidelines, authorization requirements, and internal SOPs
- Monitor KPIs and provide regular performance feedback to team members
- Handle complex or escalated verification cases and serve as a subject matter expert
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA and all applicable federal, state, and payer regulations
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, business, or related field preferred
- 3–5 years of insurance verification or patient access experience, with at least 1–2 years in a lead or supervisory role
- Strong knowledge of insurance plans (commercial, Medicare, Medicaid), authorizations, and referral processes
- Experience with electronic health records (EHR) and practice management systems
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
