The Idaho State Board of Education (Board) is established in the Idaho Constitution for the “general supervision of the state educational institutions and public school system.” State law charges the Board with the general supervision, governance and control of public schools and postsecondary institutions, including community colleges. The Board is comprised of eight members: seven appointed by the Governor, as well as the statewide elected superintendent of public instruction. The Office of the State Board of Education (OSBE) is charged with providing professional staff support to the Board and implementing the Board’s policies, programs, and initiatives.
Summary
The Office of the State Board of Education (OSBE) is seeking an accomplished and collaborative professional to serve as Associate Academic Officer (AAO). This leadership position is responsible for advancing academic policy initiatives across Idaho’s postsecondary education system and plays a critical role in supporting the strategic priorities of the Idaho State Board of Education.The AAO works closely with OSBE staff and public postsecondary institutions to identify needs, align resources, and promote system-wide student success. A key responsibility of this role is to advance the Board’s vision for dual credit as a pivotal strategy for enhancing postsecondary outcomes. The AAO will lead collaborative efforts with public and private postsecondary institutions, K–12 partners, and other key stakeholders to implement a comprehensive statewide dual credit framework. This effort will include leading the continued development and refinement of policies and practices that align with the system-wide philosophy and long-term vision adopted by the Board.
The AAO reports directly to the Chief Academic Officer (CAO) and serves as a key member of the Board’s academic leadership team. This position supervises a team of 3–4 professionals within the Academic Affairs division and coordinates regular engagement with OSBE staff, postsecondary leaders, and other education stakeholders.
The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership and communication skills, have demonstrated experience in higher education policy and program development, and have experience managing complex projects across multiple institutions. This is an in-person position based in Boise, Idaho, with the option for limited hybrid work. The rate of pay for this position ranges from $47.00 - $49.00 per hour, equivalent to approximately $97,760.00 - $101,920.00 per year.

Job Responsibilities
- Support the implementation of Board Policy (Section III, Postsecondary Affairs) across institutions. Assess areas where variable and inconsistent delivery of academic and student policy may exist. Work with institutions to develop solutions and offer improvement where necessary. As needed, bring issues forward to institutional leadership and to the Board to address.
- Ensure key student success strategies adopted by the Board are implemented at institutions within the scope and scale intended, particularly in the interrelated spheres of the statewide dual credit program and the shared general education framework in Idaho.
- Ensure statewide dual credit recommendations adopted by the Board are developed and implemented at institutions within the scope and scale intended.
- As appropriate, assist with the development of Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and applications for external funding that may be submitted on behalf of the Board. Assist with coordination of grant funded initiatives as may be needed.
- As appropriate, support CAO with offering review and recommendation of institutional proposals for new academic programs, such as undergraduate degrees and certificates.
- Develop Board agenda items in consultation with CAO and provide reports to the Board.
- Serve as OSBE liaison to administrator, faculty, staff, and/or student groups as needed.
- Demonstrated leadership in the development or implementation of policies or academic initiatives within a postsecondary institution or across multiple institutions.
- Experience engaging diverse stakeholders in higher education—including administrators, faculty, staff, students, and/or community partners—to build consensus on complex issues or projects.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects, including setting milestones, monitoring progress, and communicating with stakeholders.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience delivering presentations to a range of audiences.
- A minimum of three years of experience in a leadership or management role within or in collaboration with higher education institutions.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ph.D., Ed.D., equivalent terminal degree, or 5+ years relevant professional experience
- Sustained engagement with dual credit and/or general education programs at an institutional or state level.
- Strong commitment to the mission of public education
- Knowledge of higher education policies, practices, trends, and issues
- Ability to build and sustain collaborative relationships across varied constituencies
- Familiarity with dual credit programs and approaches
- Ability to effectively balance competing priorities and timelines

- Ability to clearly and effectively communicate complex information to diverse audiences.
- Exceptional attention to detail, particularly in written communication.
- Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint) is required.
- This position requires periodic in-state and out-of-state travel.
