Description

Job Summary:

The Lead Tire Technician is responsible for overseeing and supporting the company’s internal tire program. This includes tire removal and replacement, on-road vehicle service, inventory management, inspections, and training of fleet mechanics in all tire-related services.

Essential Functions And Responsibilities

  • Remove, replace, and mount tires and wheels on company assets.
  • Provide road service support for fleet vehicles during and after business hours.
  • Maintain tire inventory and manage recycling or disposal of used tires and waste materials.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance checks on tires, including condition, pressure, and tread depth; record findings in the fleet management system (currently “Fleetio”).
  • Assist in training shop mechanics on tire and wheel services.
  • Collaborate with the Shop Foreman and Service Coordinator on additional fleet-related programs and services as directed by the Fleet Manager.
  • Regular communication with fleet managers, dispatchers, and mechanics is essential to ensure smooth operations and address any issues during transport.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in commercial tire and wheel repair and service.
  • Strong understanding of tire maintenance and repair techniques.
  • Proficiency with tire repair and balancing equipment.
  • Ability to operate tools such as hand tools, pneumatic guns, portable air compressors, and safety cages.
  • Basic computer skills: experience with fleet management systems is a plus.
  • Strong communication and organizational abilities.

  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
  • Valid driver’s license required.

Work Environment: This position involves work in both garage and field settings. It requires moderate to heavy physical exertion, including prolonged standing, bending, kneeling, and squatting. The role involves lifting heavy equipment and working in physically demanding conditions. Exposure to extreme weather, shop environments, and traffic during road calls is expected.
