Science is seeking a Microfabrication Engineer focused on the development of thin film materials and fabrication processes at our Alameda, CA location. Your main focus will be the design, fabrication, and testing of thin film encapsulation and electrode materials and integrating them into novel implantable devices. This will include thin film deposition characterization, developing fabrication process flows, and failure analysis. This is a hands-on position where you will need to lay out devices and own their fabrication, either directly or together with partners. As a young company, our needs are always changing, and so individual roles continuously evolve.
Role responsibilities:
Science is required under California law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. We determine your level based on your interview performance and make an offer based on the indicated salary band. The base salary range for this full-time position is $115,000 - $155,000 annually + equity + benefits. Within the range, individual pay is determined by several factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Please keep in mind that the equity portion of the offer is not included in these numbers.

Role responsibilities:
- Develop thin film deposition processes and implement process control.
- Characterize thin film materials and multilayer device stacks.
- Design, fabricate, and test thin film electrodes and encapsulation schemes.
- Integrate new materials and processes into the device fabrication flow.
- Investigate failures in multilayer thin-film devices and determine underlying failure mechanisms.
- 3+ years of experience working with semiconductor manufacturing processes including wet/dry etch, thin film deposition, lithography, and mask design layout.
- Hands-on experience with metrology including scanning electron microscopy, optical microscopy, profilometry, and ellipsometry.
- Experience designing and fabricating thin film devices.
- Comfortable working in fast-paced environments.
- Hands-on experience configuring or maintaining vacuum deposition tools.
- In-depth materials knowledge of biocompatible thin films.
- Expertise in electrochemistry.
