Position Title and Salary: Appellate Reporter Technical Editor, grade 29, $24.29 hourly

The position serves as the executive administrative assistant to the Reporter of Decisions. The Appellate Reporter Technician assists the Reporter of Decisions in detailed proofing, filing, and publishing legal opinions and orders for the Kansas Judicial Branch.

Job Duties:

(Position may not include all duties listed and duties listed may not cover all duties that may be performed)

  • Use Microsoft Word to build bound volumes for publication
  • Format pdfs containing judicial opinions, tables, front matter, and other information to be printed in bound volumes
  • Create filing lists and e-file opinions with the Appellate Clerk's Office weekly
  • Upload opinions to the Kansas Judicial Branch website weekly
  • Use databases to log in opinions and produce reports
  • Carefully review and proofread opinions and pdf drafts
  • Provide suggestions on rules of syntax, grammar, punctuation, diction, style, legal content, and citation of authority
  • Regularly communicate with the State Printer and Westlaw representatives
  • Serve as information resource to staff of the appellate courts
  • Provide prompt and courteous service to coworkers
  • Appropriately share information internally and externally while maintaining confidentiality
  • Attend meetings and training courses as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Proficiency in Adobe
  • Proficient in use of rules of grammar, punctuation, and spelling
  • Extremely detail-oriented and thorough
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Organized and punctual

Required Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited university or college. The substitution of educational experience can be waived with two or more years’ experience in working with legal documents.
