REPORTS TO: School Principal

SUMMARY: To help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able and responsible young adults.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • To guide pupils in their learning utilizing the Idaho Core Standards and core competencies of Big Picture design principles.
  • To instruct pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
  • To work with pupils to develop individualized learning plans and small group projects.
  • To collaborate with teachers to deliver services in the least restrictive environment.
  • To develop learning experiences to best utilize the available time for student learning.
  • To establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  • To evaluate pupil's academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports.
  • To communicate with student and parent(s) through conferences and other means to discuss pupil's progress and interpret the school program.
  • To identify pupil needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude and learning problems.
  • To create an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards and interest centers.
  • To maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities.
  • To participate cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method by which the teacher will be evaluated in conformance with the district guidelines.
  • To select and requisition books and instructional aids; maintains required inventory records.
  • To supervise pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
  • To administer group standardized tests in accordance with district testing program.
  • To participate in curriculum development programs as required.
  • To participate in faculty committees and the sponsorship of pupil activities.
  • To believe that students of all backgrounds can and must learn at high levels.
  • To persevere through challenges to best support student learning and building needs.
  • To discern the presence and nature of problems accurately.
  • To develop creative solutions.
  • To approach difficult situations logically.
  • To suggest multiple solutions to a single problem.

Education And/Or Experience

  • Idaho Teacher Certification in Elementary Education (for Middle School positions only) or Secondary Education (for Middle and High School positions) with endorsement(s). Multiple endorsements preferred.
  • Highly Qualified Teacher per the standards set forth by the Nampa School District
  • Bachelor degree required in area of major study.
  • Teaching or student teaching at appropriate grade level.
  • Two to Six years of teaching experience in upper elementary, middle or high school preferred.
  • Experience with Project Based Learning and Multidisciplinary Learning preferred.
  • Must attend Bus Training upon hire at Union

PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS: Demonstrate sound judgment by taking appropriate actions regarding instructional practice and discipline.

PRODUCTIVITY/EFFICIENCY SKILLS: Consistently demonstrate ability to respond to changing situations in a flexible manner in order to meet current needs, such as reprioritizing work as necessary; organize job functions and work area to be able to effectively complete varied assignments within established time frame.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Able to conduct basic math functions and manipulate formulas in spreadsheets as needed. Ability to see math as a need in our society, and not a barrier or something you just “do.”

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral and diagram form. Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
