
Coastal1 Credit Union is seeking a Commercial Banking Portfolio Manager who's primary responsibilities include all aspects of portfolio management for an assigned group of lending relationships (normally the largest in the line of business portfolio) to ensure that the administration and risk management of each Member relationship follows established Commercial Banking’s Policies and Procedures, Coastal1’s business strategies and general regulatory requirements. Manages, monitors and evaluates those assigned Commercial Banking lending relationships through Credit Quest’s Credit Manager and Financial Analyzer, for continuing financial condition of Member borrowers, the quality and sufficiency of the sources of repayment and collateral, the appropriateness of credit structures and the assigned credit risk grades. Develops and implements new portfolio reporting and statistical approaches for continual monitoring of Member relationship risks.
This role requires ON SITE availability in Pawtucket, RI.
Education & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in a business-related field, or equivalent work experience is required. Additional education, certifications, or other distinctions are a plus
- Formal commercial credit training is preferred
- Experience with Commercial & Industrial (C&I) & Commercial Real Estate (CRE) loan underwriting
- Five (5) or more years of commercial portfolio management or credit analysis experience
- Working knowledge of Credit Quest’s Credit Manager and Financial Analyzer is desirable
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills. Proven ability to gather and analyze data and information, draw logical conclusions, and make appropriate recommendations. Proven problem-solving ability
- Strong knowledge of credit risk, financial analysis, and market dynamics
- Ability to understand and review loan documentation
- Strong organizational, time management and prioritization skills with attention to detail
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills with strong presentation skills
- Team player able to work effectively in a team fostered, multi-tasking environment
- Working knowledge of MS Office (e.g. Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)
- Familiarity with Fiserv DNA is a plus
- Ability to maintain a positive and upbeat Credit Union image
- Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information securely
- Bi-lingual communication skills are advantageous but not required

Job Duties
- Writes detailed narrative reports for the assigned Member relationships, including details of history and credit structures by conducting comprehensive analyses, including scrutinizing financial statements (audited, reviewed, or self-prepared) or income tax returns, performing detailed financial statement analysis, trend analysis, industry assessments, collateral valuations, cash flow analysis and evaluation of the ability to repay required debt service.
- Examines, analyzes, and evaluates a variety of documents and business structures, and then utilizes independent judgment to determine the degree of member relationship transaction risk when compared to Coastal1’s Commercial Banking Lending Policy.
- Identifies Member relationships requiring updated financial and related information, and prepares Member related communications for timely collection or ongoing monitoring
- Extrapolates data from financial statements, tax returns, credit agencies, online searches, and all other available resources, to analyze cash flows and project economics, and prepare detailed property descriptions and market analysis, tenancy analysis, property valuations, construction budget analysis with sources and uses, guarantor/sponsor personal financial statements and cash flows, and real estate holdings analysis.
- Spreads financial statements and tax returns and performs industry peer analysis in Credit Quest’s Financial Analyzer and then uses Credit Quest’s Credit Manager to perform detailed credit analysis and risk assessments.
- Communicates with Member Borrowers, their advisors, and the relevant Coastal1 Commercial Banking Officers or stakeholders as needed during the relationship management processes.
- Assist Commercial Loan Officers with construction project site visits, inspections, Member visits and meetings.
- Prepares or assists with annual Member relationship reviews or renewals, including an analysis of financial reporting when received, collateral evaluation, payment history, credit risk grade adequacy review and reaffirmation, and adverse industry or economic changes. Monitors covenant compliance testing.
- Reviews Member borrower compliance with loan agreements and reports exceptions to the CBOO or Commercial Banking Manager.
- Proactively identify at-risk credits and recommend remedial strategies (e.g. forbearance, restructuring, increased monitoring).
- Manages delinquencies, loan exceptions, borrowing base, construction advances, criticized loans, etc.
- Works closely with CBOs in transaction and relationship monitoring, or project oversight.
- Responds to a variety of inquiries and confirmations about Commercial Banking Members.
- Ensures compliance with Coastal1's Bank Secrecy Act/Anti-Money Laundering Policy and related procedures, Member Identification Program and Office of Foreign Assets Control screening and record keeping requirements.
- Performs other duties assigned, and all duties in accordance with Coastal1 policies, procedures and the applicable regulatory compliance guidelines.
