The Capabilities, Analysis and Development (CAD) division of Applied Research Associates (ARA), Inc. is seeking a highly analytical Data Visualization Analyst with a passion for data visualization for our Capabilities Analysis and Development Division (CAD). The successful candidate will support a variety of analysis projects for Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) and DHS Components. This role is responsible for transforming complex data into clear, compelling visual stories and delivering actionable insights to stakeholders. The ideal candidate is passionate about data, skilled in analytics, and in visualization tools and techniques that bring data to life and support decision-making.

Successful Candidates Will Be Expected To:

  • Analyze large and complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, and insights
  • Extract, transform, and load (ETL) data, ensuring data accuracy and consistency
  • Design, develop, and maintain interactive dashboards, reports, and visualizations using tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar platforms
  • Create data visualizations, infographics, interactive charts, and graphs that enable end-users to make data-driven divisions
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather data requirements and translate needs into analytical and visual solutions
  • Ensure data quality and consistency through validation and troubleshooting
  • Present findings in a clear and compelling manner, tailored to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Recommend and implement best practices for data visualization to ensure visuals are informative and user-friendly
  • Support data governance efforts, including documentation of data definitions, lineage, and sources
  • Automate repetitive reporting tasks and support scalable data solutions

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree with 2-4 years of work experience OR Master’s degree with 2+ years of work experience in data analysis, business intelligence, or a similar role
  • Ability to interpret and analyze large and complex datasets for presentation to all levels of organizational leadership
  • Experience with data visualization tools like Tableau, PowerBI, or Qlik
  • Experience with Excel, data wrangling, and cleaning techniques
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, SharePoint)
  • Familiarity with one or more of the following analytic tools for data analysis: Python, R, SQL, SAS, Stata, SPSS
  • Able to obtain and maintain DHS Suitability
  • US Citizenship

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with predictive analysis, trend analysis, sensitivity analysis, and other common data analysis techniques
  • Experience with workflow analysis and data manipulation tools like Alteryx or Tableau Prep
  • Experience with statistical analysis and programming using languages like R or Python
  • Experience working with DHS, its Components, or similar organizations and coordinating across multiple levels of organizations, including senior leadership
  • Active security clearance
  • Active DHS Suitability
