Serán BioScience is seeking a skilled leader to join the Facilities Department to help build and maintain campus infrastructure. The primary responsibilities of this role will be orchestrating routine maintenance, scheduled upgrades, and managing construction projects with limited disruption to operations or production. If the chosen candidate has proven abilities to manage a team, the secondary responsibilities will be to lead a diverse and collaborative team of Facilities Technicians of various skills and abilities. As a technical leader within the department, this role will develop and maintain positive relationships with internal stakeholders and outside vendors to efficiently manage projects.

Title and compensation will be dependent on the skills and experience of the chosen candidate. Those with various or specific skills in facilities trades are encouraged to apply, with preference given for those who aspire to manage people and projects.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Maintains day-to-day operations of all Serán facilities
  • Performs daily safety and cleanliness inspections of Serán facilities and grounds
  • Manages maintenance by delegating or completing work orders
  • Monitors the safety and cleanliness of interior and exterior areas, such as offices, conference rooms, parking lots and outdoor recreation spaces
  • Performs routine maintenance on facilities and makes repairs as needed
  • Schedules routine inspections and emergency repairs with outside vendors
  • Ensures proper security measures for the workplace, including collaborating with security system vendors or a team of security professionals
  • Creates reports on maintenance, repairs, and safety
  • Oversees and supervises multiple areas and shifts within the facility; may be asked to rotate on-call during off hours to respond to facilities emergencies
  • Establishes and maintains positive relationships with vendors and contractors
  • Continuously updates and improves efficiency and response time to minimize production downtime
  • Participates in the preparation and administration of the facility maintenance budget; submits budget recommendations; monitors expenditures; prepares cost estimates; submits justifications for equipment requests
  • Performs Project Management oversight by directly managing contractors and consultants, budgets development and tracking, quality assurance oversight and project expense control
  • Manages projects (capital and expense), facility requests, and special events
  • Supports the onboarding new Facilities team members, including direct training
  • Motivates and improves team performance by providing direction and facilitate skill building
  • Monitors to ensure that all employees comply with safety regulations
  • Scope of work may increase to align with company initiatives
  • Performs other related duties as assigned


Required Skills And Abilities

  • Proficiency with repair tools and techniques
  • Communicates effectively and maintains productive relationships with coworkers, clients, and other contacts outside the company
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Understands budgets, bid proposals, contract evaluation, and basic accounting principles
  • Demonstrates the ability to make competent decisions in emergency situations
  • Demonstrates the ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical one-lines, logic drawings, and technical manuals
  • Ability to solve practical problems, clearly communicate tasks and needs, and train other personnel
  • Proficient and comfortable with preparing, reviewing and submitting compliance driven paperwork to ensure GMP
  • Analyzes and interprets data to make sound professional judgments and recommendations
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills with the ability to supervise and motivate team members is preferred
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software


Education And Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Journeyman level of knowledge in the discipline of HVAC or Commercial Electrical preferred
  • Advanced mechanical skill and level of knowledge in the disciplines of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, pneumatics, hydraulics and life safety systems
  • Minimum of five years of relevant facilities experience; minimum of two years of relevant managerial experience to be considered for supervisor title


Physical Requirements

  • Physically able to work throughout facilities
  • Prolonged periods of time standing, kneeling, crawling, or climbing ladders
  • Required to work in settings with extreme cold or heat at various times of year
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times
  • Ability to drive a company vehicle; must have and maintain a valid Oregon Driver’s license (ODL) or obtain ODL within 30 days
  • Must carry and maintain personal vehicle Insurance
  • Forklift certification
