ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION VACANCY
SUMMARY: Currently searching for two Garden Coordinators to work on the Ernest Prete Jr. Fellowship Program as the Garden Coordinator at Kellogg Elementary School under the supervision of Dr. Janel Ortiz, Biology Professor and Program Coordinator.
SOME OF THE THINGS THAT YOU WILL GET TO DO (this is just a small sampling of work variety):
- Be required to have gardening experience.
- Work 6 hours per week in the Kellogg Elementary School Garden - across 2 days (3-hour blocks) during the fall and spring semesters, 2 hours per week during winter intersession, and 4 hours per week during the summer.
- Once per month, during the academic year, hold a weekend garden day for 4 hours each.
- Log hours into Kronos each working day.
- Be able to work independently without supervision.
- Send weekly reminders to all fellows about weekly garden hours and the once-a-month Saturday (4 hours).
- Maintain the sign-in sheet for the fellow to log in their hours.
- Maintain weekly and monthly garden maintenance plans that are accessible to fellows and volunteers.
- Attend Prete workshops and answer gardening questions (one in the fall and three in the spring).
- Maintain and repair garden irrigation system.
- Have knowledge of vegetable planting seasons in the fall and spring. In charge of clearing out the garden for summer.
- Have knowledge of pond maintenance and paver pathway construction (required)
- Have knowledge of native plants.
- Clear pathways and outside amphitheater.
- Be comfortable working with hand-held and power tools.
- Be comfortable working in a setting with insects, wildlife, and variable weather conditions.
- Take photos of fellows working in the garden.
- Take photos of the garden showing before and after pictures.
- Assist fellows, teachers, elementary students, and mentor when visiting garden during your scheduled garden hours.
- Submit portfolio page with your experience as the garden coordinator.
- CC Dr. Ortiz on all group emails to fellows.
- Add resources to Canvas for gardening.
- Be collaborative and work with Schoolyard Coordinator and fellows.
- Be present for the annual Prete funder campus tour in April or May in the morning - TBD.
- Be present for Back-to-School night and Open House (dates TBD).
- Maintain full-time status and an overall GPA of 2.5 or better.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have a high school diploma and be a current full-time Cal Poly Pomona student.
