About the Role

We’re looking for enthusiastic, dependable, and compassionate individuals to serve as Camp Counselors for ¡Camp Exprésate!, a one-week day camp centered on creativity, connection, and self-expression through the performing arts. As a Camp Counselor, you’ll guide a group of 2nd–5th grade campers through their daily schedule, support professional Teaching Artists, lead games and activities, and help create a joyful, inclusive camp experience This is a hands-on, all-day role ideal for those who love working with youth, thrive in high-energy environments, and believe in the power of the arts to build confidence and community


About ¡Camp Exprésate!

Exprésate means Express Yourself! Camp ¡Exprésate! is a vibrant, one-of-a-kind creative youth development program that helps young people build confidence, creativity, and community through the performing arts Serving students entering 2nd through 5th grade, this program invites campers to explore storytelling through acting, singing, dancing, and design. Camp Counselors are key to creating a joyful, inclusive experience—guiding campers through their day, supporting Teaching Artists, and leading group activities that foster self-expression


Schedule Overview

Camp Counselors must be available for the full duration of the following:
  • Virtual Training:
  • 2-hour Zoom session on Sunday, July 14 OR Monday, July 15 (exact time TBD)
  • On-Site Setup Day:
  • Wednesday, July 17 | 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM
  • Oak Hill Elementary School, Escondido
  • Camp Week:
  • Monday, July 21 – Friday, July 25
  • Daily Hours: 7:15 AM – 4:45 PM
  • Includes camper drop-off/pick-up coverage, daily staff huddles, and full-day camper supervision.

Position Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support a group of 10–15 students throughout the day
  • Lead group games, transitions, and daily rituals to build a sense of belonging
  • Assist Teaching Artists in sessions focused on acting, singing, dancing, and design
  • Help prepare campers for a final performance
  • Promote a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment
  • Serve as a role model for professionalism, creativity, and kindness
This position reports to the Camp Director and works closely with the Education Programs team


Qualifications

  • Experience working with children in educational, recreational, or arts-based environments
  • Interest or background in theatre, music, dance, visual arts, or youth development
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Ability to stay organized, positive, and flexible in a fast-paced setting
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and creating space for all children to thrive
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
  • CPR/First Aid certification is a plus

Working Environment & Physical Demands

Camp takes place indoors and outdoors on a public elementary school campus. Counselors should be prepared to:
  • Move between classrooms and outdoor areas throughout the day
  • Be on their feet for extended periods
  • Regularly lift and move up to 10 pounds; occasionally up to 20 pounds
  • Communicate clearly with campers, colleagues, and families
