The Vice President of Business Development is responsible for leading the team that drives Nexio's growth through the acquisition of new customer acquisition partnerships. This role leads a team of Business Development Representatives (BDRs) focused on identifying and securing partnerships with payment agents, business consultants, service providers, ISVs (Independent Software Vendors), and banks that can deliver new merchant relationships in lower-risk verticals. Once partnerships are secured, they will be transitioned to Strategic Partner Managers for ongoing relationship management. The position requires a strategic mindset to identify and pursue partnership opportunities that align with Nexio's focus on sustainable growth and risk parameters.

Responsibilities

Partnership Acquisition Strategy

  • Develop and implement targeted strategies for identifying and acquiring partnerships with payment agents, business consultants, service providers, ISVs, and banks.
  • Create segment-specific approaches for each partner type, recognizing their unique value propositions and merchant relationships.
  • Design evaluation frameworks that assess partners' merchant portfolios, focusing on lower-risk verticals and sustainable growth.
  • Build pipeline development strategies tailored to each partner segment's business model and decision-making process.
  • Set and manage partnership acquisition targets by partner type, aligned with company growth objectives.
  • Develop competitive positioning and value propositions specific to each partner category.

BDR Team Leadership & Development

  • Build and lead a high-performing team of Business Development Representatives focused on partnership acquisition across all partner segments.
  • Develop segment-specific training programs to help BDRs understand the unique needs and motivations of agents, consultants, ISVs, banks, and service providers.
  • Create and maintain performance metrics and accountability systems customized for each partner type.
  • Coach and mentor BDRs on effective prospecting, qualification, and closing techniques specific to each partner category.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning about partner segments, their business models, and merchant relationships.
  • Develop BDR expertise in payments industry dynamics and partner-specific value propositions.

Process Design & Optimization

  • Create efficient systems for partnership prospecting, qualification, and initial engagement.
  • Develop standardized processes for evaluating partnership opportunities and assessing potential merchant flow.
  • Establish handoff procedures to transition secured partnerships to Strategic Partner Managers.
  • Implement tools and technologies to enhance BDR team productivity and effectiveness.
  • Design reporting frameworks to track partnership acquisition pipeline and team performance.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Risk and Underwriting to validate partnership target markets and merchant profiles.
  • Coordinate with Marketing on partnership acquisition campaigns and outreach messaging.
  • Partner with Product team to articulate technical capabilities and integration requirements.
  • Collaborate with Strategic Partner Management team to ensure smooth partnership transitions.
  • Engage with Legal team on initial partnership agreement structures.

New Partnership Development

  • Lead complex partnership negotiations and structure initial agreements.
  • Create compelling partnership value propositions aligned with target partners' business objectives.
  • Develop standardized partnership models and commercial frameworks.
  • Oversee initial partnership documentation and approval processes.
  • Ensure smooth transition of new partnerships to Strategic Partner Management team.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of business development experience, with proven success in acquiring strategic partnerships in fintech or payments.
  • Track record of building and leading successful business development teams focused on partnership acquisition.
  • Experience in developing and executing partnership strategies in B2B environments.
  • Strong understanding of payment processing, banking relationships, and financial technology partnerships.
  • Excellent negotiation and relationship-building skills.
  • Data-driven approach to decision-making and performance management.
  • Bachelor's degree required; MBA or relevant advanced degree preferred.

Key Metrics of Success

  • Achievement of new partnership acquisition targets (EGP) on a quarterly basis.
  • Growth in projected revenue from newly signed partnerships.
  • Improvement in partnership acquisition efficiency and time-to-close metrics.
  • Success rate in transitioning partnerships to Strategic Partner Management team.
  • Achievement of BDR team performance targets in partnership prospecting and closing.
  • Quality of partnerships acquired as measured by merchant flow and risk profile.
  • Effectiveness of cross-functional collaboration in partnership acquisition process.
