Your Opportunities

  • Oversees and directs all operations of Angela Hospice at Waterford inpatient unit.
  • Collaborates with the Lourdes community staff to ensure the provision of services from the maintenance, housekeeping, and dietary programs.
  • Collaborates with Patient Access Director on the admission/discharge process for all inpatient unit patients.
  • Hires, evaluates, disciplines, and terminates, if necessary, staff under their direct supervision in accordance with company policy in consultation with Senior Director of Clinical Services, Director of Human Resources, and/or President/CEO.
  • Coordinates and conducts all team meetings, bi-weekly Interdisciplinary Team meetings to keep current on all patient needs, review expectations, and focusing on maintaining the culture of Angela Hospice.
  • Responsible for the review of policies and practices related to admission, care, transfer, and discharge of all inpatient unit patients.
  • Delivers care to patient and/or family within scope of practice and documents accordingly.
  • Participates as a member of the QAPI committee, developing, implementing, and evaluating inpatient unit performance improvement plans in line with Angela Hospice service and clinical program expectations.
  • Shares information with the Executive Team in a timely manner and when requested, and reports promptly to the Senior Director of Clinical Services or President/CEO, any incident or evidence of abuse or violation of patient/family rights.
  • Works with the Angela Hospice staff and leadership team to build and maintain cohesion among the different programs and locations of Angela Hospice.
  • Participates in the budget process and has accountability for census budgets in the inpatient unit.
  • Represents Angela Hospice in the market area seeking out and maintaining positive relationships with community referral sources, residential living communities, hospitals, and home and community based service providers.
  • Represents the agency on committees and professional forums outside the organization, as appropriate.
  • Reviews all concerns and complaints from staff, patients, and families, forwarding to appropriate person overseeing the reporting, follow up and resolution of each issue.
  • Facilitates the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs designed to improve and enhance the quality of services offered by Angela Hospice at Lourdes and the organization as a whole.
  • Works with the Director of Quality and Health Information and Human Resources to review, evaluate, and follow-up on all reported patient and employee incidents (via incident reports).
  • Conducts annual performance evaluations of pertinent staff and monitors activities and quality of work timely.
  • Maintains and evaluates compliance with state/federal regulations, NHPCO standards, Medicare Conditions of Participation, CHAP accreditation, and all other applicable standards and guidelines, and will be an active participation of all survey activity at the inpatient unit.
  • Remains available by telephone to inpatient unit staff 24/7 or assigns designee in time of absence.
  • Assists Senior Director of Clinical Services and/or President/CEO in developing appropriate, timely, and complete reports for the Corporate Board of Directors.
  • Works in close collaboration with all inpatient unit staff to establish, implement, and evaluate goals and objectives for the organization.
  • Serves as a facilitator of patient, administrative, and clinical support services in collaboration with the Angela Hospice Leadership team.
  • Monitors equipment use/need, orders equipment or scheduled equipment pick-ups as needed.
  • Approves all schedules completed, making adjustments as needed to provide adequate staffing for the inpatient unit.
  • Assists in maintaining a safe, neat, and clean environment, reporting any suspected deficiency.
  • Assures the comfort, privacy and dignity of each patient, and interacts with residents patients/families and team members in a manner of warmth and promotes a caring environment.


Additional Opportunities

  • Maintains knowledge of and compliance with current Medicare/Medicaid, state/federal rules and regulations for hospice services.
  • Ensures compliance witht the Medicare conditions of participation and other state regulations that govern the provision of healthcare.
  • Complies with all Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) requirements in accordance with federal, state and organizational policies.
  • Participates in organizational monitoring of the quality of medical services and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Develops, maintains and upgrades professional knowledge and practice skills through attendance at seminars, conferences and particiaption in continuing education and in-service classes.
  • Fulfills the obligation of requested and/or accepted assignments.
  • Demonstrate knowledge in communication and counseling patient/family in dealing with end-of-life issues.
  • Supports department operations as directed as well as being assigned to any special projects.
  • Performs tasks which are supportive in nature to the essential functions of the position, but which may be altered based upon the need of the organization.
  • Meets on-going requirements to remain compliant with Federal/State and/or other regulatory guidelines.
  • Performs other duties as directed by the President/CEO, or other assigned designee.


What You Bring

  • College degree required, BSN degree from an accredited nursing school required
  • Current registered nurse license in the state of Michigan required
  • Current hospice certification preferred
  • 3-5 years of managerial experience required
  • Hospice, home health, health care, or related organization experience required
  • Excellent organization, time management, and managerial skills
  • Excellent reading, writing, grammar, and mathematics skills
  • Proficient computer knowledge and skill: Microsoft Office
  • Proficient interpersonal relations and communicative skills: with staff, patients, family members, and interdisciplinary team
  • Must be a licensed driver with an automobile that is insured in accordance with state and/or organization requirements
