Summary:

The Driver is responsible for operating designated transport vehicles in support of the secure and timely movement of detainees, staff, and equipment within and between DHS-approved locations. While this is a non-law enforcement and unarmed position, Drivers are essential to the coordination of transport logistics and safety. They work in tandem with armed Transportation Officers and other facility personnel to maintain operational efficiency and regulatory compliance. All driving activities must adhere to ICE National Detention Standards 2019 (NDS 2019), DHS PREA (6 CFR Part 115), and local and federal transportation safety laws.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate assigned ICE-approved vehicles to transport detainees, equipment, and personnel.
  • Conduct pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections and report maintenance needs or damage.
  • Follow defensive driving protocols and ICE-approved transport routes and safety procedures.
  • Work under the direction of armed Transportation Officers to assist in loading/unloading detainees.
  • Maintain accurate trip logs, mileage, fuel receipts, and assist with detainee transport logs.
  • Assist with maintaining chain-of-custody of documents, detainee property, and equipment.
  • Support shuttle or movement operations within the facility perimeter as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident (subject to DHS vetting).
  • Education: High school diploma or GED.
  • 1 year of driving experience in security, logistics, government, or military environments preferred.
  • Valid state-issued driver's license (CDL preferred but not required).
  • Must pass DHS/ICE background investigation and pre-employment screening.
  • Must be able to sit for extended periods, assist with loading/unloading, and pass facility mobility standards.
  • Clear verbal communication and ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Must complete PREA training, ICE facility orientation, and defensive driving basics.

Position Conditions & Schedule:

  • Shift-based scheduling with potential for early morning, evening, or weekend routes.
  • May operate within secure facility grounds or in limited offsite missions under supervision.
  • Not a law enforcement role; Drivers do not carry firearms or directly supervise detainees.
  • Must comply with Trusted Workforce 2.0 continuous vetting policies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience supporting ICE, BOP, or other secure facility transportation.
  • Familiarity with PREA-compliant handling and secure escort operations.
  • Defensive driving certification or prior military driver/operator experience.
