This is a full time in office/facility position.

  • Lead the drive to achieve industry leading HSE performance in the Manufacturing Plant. Actively promote a proactive Safety Culture and ensure excellence and consistency with the FlexSteel Health, Safety and Environmental Management System (HSEMS)

  • Policy Enforcement and Leadership: Oversees and enforces the organization's safety policies, ensuring compliance by all employees, contractors, and visitors. Leads HSE initiatives in manufacturing, driving company-wide safety improvement programs.
  • Safety Observation Engagement: Promotes, monitors, and reports on management and employee involvement in the safety observation process to enhance workplace safety.
  • Training and Onboarding Coordination: Manages new hire orientations, including safety training and PPE provision, to ensure a safe onboarding process.
  • KPI Meeting Participation: Attends weekly KPI meetings, providing HSE data and insights to support performance discussions.
  • Reporting and Data Analysis: Compiles weekly reports for the VP of Manufacturing, detailing safety incidents, near misses, toolbox talks, and other critical safety metrics.
  • Safety Review Facilitation: Leads weekly safety review meetings, collaborates with the plant team to document incidents, and ensures follow-up until resolution.
  • Safety Walks and Audits: Participates in MDI and safety walks, identifying positive observations ("Good Catches") and areas for safety enhancements.
  • Incident Review Management: Oversees the incident review process, scheduling meetings, analyzing witness statements, photos, and reports, and ensuring accurate documentation.
  • Recordkeeping and Corrective Actions: Maintains up-to-date records of safety incidents and oversees the implementation of corrective measures.
  • Collaboration with Plant Team: Partners with the manufacturing team and management to address safety concerns and enforce safety protocols during operations.
  • Safety Training Organization: Arranges safety training as needed, collaborating with HR to enhance training programs.
  • Policy and Program Evaluation: Assesses safety policies, procedures, and programs, recommending enhancements to senior management.
  • HSE Inspections: Conducts regular HSE walks across all shifts, including weekends, documenting findings and implementing corrective actions.
  • Time Allocation: Balances time equally between floor activities (50%) and administrative duties (50%).
  • Safety Alerts: Prepares and distributes safety alerts to communicate critical safety information promptly.
  • Communication Skills: Effectively communicates safety protocols and the company’s "Safety as a Value" mission to all staff.
  • Presentation and Interpersonal Skills: Delivers clear presentations to groups, including the executive team, and fosters strong interpersonal relationships.
  • Proactive Safety Oversight: Maintains vigilance and proactively addresses workplace safety issues.
  • Post-Incident Coordination: Assists with post-accident drug and alcohol screenings and facilitates employee transport to offsite medical facilities when required.
  • Quarterly Incident Reviews: Prepares slides and organizes data for quarterly incident review meetings with management.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Performs tasks assigned by the VP of HSE to support the company’s safety objectives.

  • Team Leadership and Development: Supervises and mentors HSE staff, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations to ensure a competent and motivated team.
  • HSE Program Oversight: Directs the implementation and enforcement of safety policies and procedures, ensuring all employees and contractors comply with HSE standards.
  • Incident Management Coordination: Oversees the incident review process, assigning tasks to team members for investigations, documentation, and follow-up to resolve safety incidents effectively.
  • Training Program Supervision: Manages the development and delivery of safety training programs, ensuring staff are equipped with necessary skills and knowledge.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Leads coordination with manufacturing and management teams to align HSE objectives, delegating responsibilities to ensure seamless integration of safety initiatives.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE And QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, an Engineering or Technology discipline (Industrial Engineering) preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years of HSE experience in industrial manufacturing, including machining, specialized equipment, and heavy overhead crane operations (over 100 tons), with at least 5 years in a managerial role.
  • Professional Certification: CSP, CHMM or equivalent professional certification preferred.
  • Industry Benchmarking: Proficient in analyzing and implementing industry trends and standards, with a focus on effective follow-through.
  • Manufacturing Knowledge: Strong understanding of industrial manufacturing processes.
  • Continuous Improvement: Familiarity with Continuous Improvement or LEAN management principles (preferred).
  • Regulatory Knowledge: In-depth understanding of global legislation relevant to onshore and offshore construction, including HSE initiatives (e.g., IIF, LWS, Target Zero), ISO standards, API requirements, and HSE Management Systems.
  • HSE System Development: Proven experience in developing and maintaining Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Management Systems.
  • HSE Bridging Documents: Skilled in creating and managing HSE bridging documents for project execution.
  • Management and Coordination: Exceptional skills in managing and coordinating HSE activities.
  • Communication and Presentation: Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to deliver effective presentations.
  • Relationship Building: Ability to foster and maintain strong relationships with management teams and industry peers.
  • Technical Proficiency: Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Power BI) and capable of quickly learning company-specific software.
