POSITION DESCRIPTION 

Under the direction of the Director of Communications and Intergovernmental Relations, the Communications and Intergovernmental Relations Project Specialist assists with various projects under the Communications and Intergovernmental Relations Department including public relations, governance, legislation, marketing, and communications. Additionally, the Communications and Intergovernmental Relations Project Specialist assists with editorial and digital projects as well as helps to facilitate events and represents SBCSS at community engagements. This position also provides administrative support to Communications and Intergovernmental Relations staff. 


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 

  • Develops effective communication with internal and external SBCSS stakeholders; 
  • Facilitates and attends community events, meetings, and ceremonies on behalf of SBCSS; 
  • Responds to inquiries from community members and stakeholders to ensure accurate information is communicated; 
  • Interprets and implements legislation associated with county monitoring requirements including Williams legislation; 
  • Prepares correspondence, written reports, flyers, brochures, print/digital materials, and presentations for various projects; 
  • Creates press releases, talking points, scripts, speeches, and other related communications; 
  • Processes financial transactions, including purchase orders and budget transfers; 
  • Prepares annual reports, certificates, directories, and compiles data; 
  • Researches and interprets relevant laws, rules, policies and procedures; 
  • Performs clerical tasks, project coordination, scheduling, and other office related duties; 
  • Provides multimedia support; 
  • Performs related duties as assigned. 


JOB REQUIREMENTS 


Experience in public relations or related settings; performing technical support functions; coordinating projects; using computer software systems; developing databases, reports, and print/digital materials; processing financial transactions; 


Skill developing and communicating information; establishing and maintaining relationships with various internal departments and branches, school districts, government agencies, business and community partners; coordinating and facilitating meetings; 


Knowledge of effective strategies used to communicate information in support of SBCSS programs and services; correct English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation; 


Ability to interpret and apply laws and regulations; establish and maintain department priorities, processes and procedures; communicate effectively with a variety of individuals in written and verbal form; exercise sound judgment; establish and meet appropriate timelines and priorities; 


Physical Abilities include sitting and standing for extended periods, fine manual dexterity, talking/hearing, near and far visual acuity, and field of vision. 


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Two (2) years experience working in an education, public relations, marketing, communications and/or intergovernmental relations office setting; 
  • Two (2) years experience utilizing word processing, website, and other digital platforms to produce research and projects; 
  • Two (2) years experience developing databases, reports, and print/digital materials; 
  • Two (2) years experience performing accounting/financial procedures; 
  • One (1) year experience performing diverse administrative support duties; 
  • Possession of a high school diploma (or its equivalency) or higher or possession of a GED. 


DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Experience working in a school district and/or county office of education setting; 
  • Experience working with school districts, school site, and County school staff on Williams legislation; 
  • Experience working with external agencies to implement initiatives; 
  • Experience in the development and/or presentation of training programs; 
  • Experience supporting strategic planning efforts; 
  • Experience writing press releases, scripts and speeches; 
  • Experience representing
