The Department of Design & Construction, Division of Infrastructure, is currently seeking two Junior Engineers to join our Construction Management 2 – Queens South and/or Southeast Queens.

Successful candidates will be provided with hands-on training and will contribute to a range of engineering tasks, from moderate to complex. Responsibilities include conducting research studies, engineering investigations, and assessments related to various engineering functions.

Additionally, the candidates will carry out civil engineering tasks of moderate complexity under the supervision of an Engineer-In-Charge and/or Resident Engineer. The scope of work and training encompasses one or more of the following specialized areas: design, drafting, engineering investigations, cost estimation, specification writing, structural calculations, conducting field surveys, and participating in design-related site inspections.

CONSTRUCTION PROJECT MANAGER I - 34201

Minimum Qualifications

  • Four years of full-time satisfactory experience performing construction inspection or construction management work on construction projects; or
  • Four years of full-time satisfactory experience in building construction as a journeyperson in one of more of the skilled building construction trades; or
  • A valid license as a professional engineer or registered architect issued by a board of examining engineers or architects duly established and qualified pursuant to the laws of any state or territory of the United States; or
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in architecture, architectural technology, landscape architecture, construction, construction technology or construction management, or chemical, civil including structural, bridge design or sanitary, electrical, or mechanical engineering or engineering technology; or
  • A combination of "1," "2" and "4" above sufficient to equal a total of four years of education and experience. Education leading to a baccalaureate degree in the areas described in "4" above will be credited on the basis of 30 semester credits for each year of acceptable experience.

License Requirement

Possession of a Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York. Employees must maintain the license during their employment.

Preferred Skills

Please note the following preferred skills for this position: 1. Outstanding verbal and written communication skills 2. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and AutoCAD 3. Construction knowledge relevant to infrastructure work (i.e., roadway, sewer, and/or water main) 4. Familiarity with NYC DOT, NYS DOT, NYC DEP specifications, MUTCD, and AASHTO standards 5. Comprehensive understanding of the NYC infrastructure system and current engineering practices 6. Proficiency in Primavera P6 scheduling and Envision Sustainability Professional (ENV SP) credential (preferred) 7. Valid driver's license (required) 8. Personal vehicle (preferred)
