Description

Position Overview: Reporting to the Executive team, the Director of Talent is responsible for monitoring and improving talent and recruitment practices by working collaboratively with team members. Additionally, this person will be responsible for all of the recruitment efforts of DAAS. The Director of Talent develops and leads initiatives aimed at increasing educator competence and retention, deepening staff engagement, and moving us towards the management practices that get us closer to our vision. Effective talent management and recruitment of high quality team members are key levers in DAAS’ success. This position requires someone who can balance the technical and adaptive styles of the work. They will work collaboratively with the Executive team to ensure all talent development and recruitment policies and practices align to the ultimate goals.

Physical Requirements: Light Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects; Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pushing and pulling.

Terms of Employment: Salary benefits shall be paid consistent with the District's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the District.

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated by the School Principal in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.

Key Responsibilities

Build strong relationships and partnerships in service of development and recruitment of the team

  • Maintain key external partnerships that support the vision of DAAS
  • Host and attend professional events
  • Network with other like-minded organizations to build the DAAS brand and increase our visibility among the educational community
  • Build and maintain partnerships with external organizations that support the DAAS mission and vision

Serve as lead in planning for innovation of talent development and culture initiatives

  • Collaborate closely with the CEO and CAO to ensure the values and principles are integrated through all talent development frameworks, systems, practices, and policies
  • Use data to drive continuous improvement in the talent development and culture efforts
  • Collaborate with leadership team to analyze and synthesize learnings from internal staff surveys and translate that learning into communication, reflection, and change implementation as needed

Recruit and develop talent

  • Design and implement overall recruiting strategy
  • Identify quality candidates for open roles within DAAS and confirm candidates’ qualifications to determine fit
  • Develop and update job descriptions and job specifications
  • Prepare recruitment materials and post open job opportunities
  • Build strong pipeline of candidates consistent with DAAS roles (i.e. teachers, transportation, etc)
  • Screen candidates' resumes and job applications
  • Conduct interviews using various reliable recruiting and selection tools/methods to filter candidates
  • Assess applicants’ relevant knowledge, skills, soft skills, experience and aptitudes
  • Create onboarding processes for DAAS team members
  • Onboard new employees in order to ensure they fully understand and internalize the vision and goals of DAAS

Support team members in acquiring certifications appropriate for their roles

  • Understand state and local certification requirements for each DAAS team member
  • Support team members with navigating requirements for initial certification and renewals (i.e. SCECHs, CDL, CPR, etc)
  • Support administration of SCECHs on behalf of the District
  • Facilitate partnerships with Education Preparation Providers to support DAAS staff members in obtaining certification
  • Maintain tracking of certification needs for DAAS team members

Skills, Knowledge And Expertise

  • Master’s degree in Educational Leadership, School Administration, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in teaching (in the classroom) and leading schools in an urban environment, strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of child development, pedagogy, and effective instructional strategies.
  • Passion for integrating arts into the curriculum and promoting creativity in the classroom.
  • Exceptional communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office and the Google Suite;
  • Commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.
  • Ability to adapt to a dynamic educational environment and contribute to a positive school culture.
