Surgery scheduling specialists act as a liaison between patient and physician, schedules all surgeries and pre-operative tests, and counsels patients prior to surgery regarding financial responsibility.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Schedules procedures at facility along with any pre-procedure testing required.
- Obtains precertification/preauthorization from insurance companies prior to surgery for each procedure and test.
- Verifies patient eligibility and coverage for the procedure.
- Discusses pre-operative testing and instructions with the patient, as directed by physicians.
- Coordinates all business and clinical paperwork prior to surgery/procedure.
- Responds to written and telephone inquiries from patient and carriers regarding planned surgeries.
- Maintains communication among the physician, patient, insurance company, and hospital at all times.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Associates degree preferred; HS diploma or GED required.
- 4+ years medical office experience; orthopedic setting preferred.
- 2+ years prior surgical scheduling experience preferred.
- EMR experience required; MEDENT preferred.
- Position requires manual and finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
- Involves standing, sitting, and walking.
- Team member will occasionally be asked to lift and carry items weighing up to 10 pounds; normal visual acuity and hearing are required.
