GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITY: The Product Owner is responsible for defining and prioritizing the product backlog to ensure the development team delivers solutions that provide maximum value to the business and its users. They act as the voice of the customer, collaborating closely with stakeholders to gather requirements, translate business needs into clear user stories, and ensure alignment with strategic goals. The Product Owner makes key decisions about product direction, scope, and priorities, balancing customer value, technical feasibility, and business viability throughout the product lifecycle.

Essential Functions
- In close collaboration with Sale and Operations, define and communicate the roadmap for assigned Products to internal and external stakeholders
- Maintain alignment with the broader company strategy, market trends in occupational health and drug testing, and emerging customer requirements
- Actively collaborate with the Senior Director of Product and other Product Owners on prioritization, planning, and cross-platform coordination
- Own and manage a detailed backlog, translating business, user, and compliance needs into actionable epics and stories
- Prioritize backlog items maximizing positive business impact in-line with the company goals, utilizing regulatory deadlines (e.g., DOT changes), contractual obligations, and risk reduction opportunities
- Develop and maintain acceptance criteria that incorporate privacy, auditability, and workflow-specific constraints
- Serve as the day-to-day lead with Engineering and QA to support design, development, testing, and release
- Lead sprint ceremonies (backlog grooming, sprint planning, reviews) and ensure feature delivery aligns with both technical and field-readiness goals.
- Work directly with Compliance, Legal, and Privacy teams to review planned development work.
- Interface with Field Operations, Implementation, and Strategic Accounts to capture pain points and opportunities from real-world usage.
- Lead client conversations as needed to clarify requirements or gather input on upcoming features.
- Support client success and training teams with feature documentation, user guides, and training resources.
- Ensure product decisions align with federal and client-specific requirements including DOT regulations, HIPAA, and laboratory accreditation standards.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders on incident readiness, audit documentation, and risk mitigation strategies tied to data flow and provider behavior.
- Determine customers’ needs and desires by specifying the research needed to obtain market information.
- Gather and facilitate the development of product requirements from the market and help the IT team with the development of product specifications that will meet the needs and demands of the market—especially the needs of key customers.
- Assess market competition by comparing the company’s product to competitors’ products.
- Assess product market data by calling on customers with field salespeople and evaluating sales call results.
- Bring new products to market by analyzing proposed product requirements and product development programs; establishing time schedules with the IT team.
- Assist in ensuring that existing product scope is developed in a way that fosters better user experience as well as facilitates the greatest utilization rates in the market.
- Assigned as needed to assist with key account relationships with for all customer market segments including: labs, TPA’s, clinics, MROs, etc.
- Maintain and protect the confidentiality of all CRL, CRL subsidiaries, legal entities and client information.
- Be able to comply with all applicable federal, state, and local safety and health regulations that would apply to this job.

Job Qualifications
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
- Certification Agile Product Ownership certification (ICAgile), Product Owner/Product Manager (POPM) certification or equivalent
- 2 years as a Product Owner or in a related product-focused role.
- 2 years working on technology-powered products as either a product manager, product designer, engineer, data analyst, data scientist, or user researcher.
- 5 years of experience in employee screening, occupational health or related industries
- Ability to learn multiple functional areas of business – engineering, design, finance, sales, or marketing
- Comprehension of drug testing and clinical testing workflows, compliance requirements, DOT regulation, Occupational Health services
- Ability to lead ad hoc teams
- Demonstrated understanding of the techniques and methods of modern product discovery and product delivery
- Comfortable developing mockups for internal and external prototype discussions
- Excellent customer service attitude
- Ability to work in Agile teams
- Comfort and ability to utilize data for assessment and decision making
- Ability to achieve goals and determine priorities, results oriented
- Time management skills
