POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Go-to-Market Operations Director will be instrumental in fulfilling Vertex’s core purpose of changing lives through education by developing our go-to-market strategies and optimizing operations to ensure that schools discover and benefit from our services. This role will conduct market research and data analysis to identify growth opportunities, develop and implement robust sales strategies and processes, inform pricing and packaging decisions, enhance our HubSpot CRM, generate insights from sales data, create high fidelity revenue forecasts, and facilitate coordination between the go-to-market, finance, marketing, service delivery, and other internal teams.

This position is part of the Vertex Support Services (VSS) division within Vertex Education, and will report directly to the President of VSS.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Performance analysis, reporting, forecast preparation

  • Analyze sales and marketing performance data to identify trends, gaps, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop and maintain high-fidelity revenue forecasts to support strategic planning and resource allocation.
  • Build dashboards and performance reports in collaboration with service delivery, sales, marketing, and finance teams to enable data-driven decision-making.
  • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and tracking mechanisms to monitor go-to-market effectiveness.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of underperforming areas and propose actionable solutions to address them.

Market research and Go-to-Market strategy development

  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative market research to identify target customer segments, market size, and unmet needs.
  • Analyze competitor positioning, pricing strategies, and service offerings to inform differentiation and strategic positioning.
  • Identify and evaluate market expansion opportunities, including new geographies, customer types, and service lines.
  • Collaborate with marketing and sales leadership to define customer value propositions and refine messaging strategies.
  • Lead the development of go-to-market strategy documents, including launch plans, timelines, and measurable objectives.

CRM management and optimization (HubSpot)

  • Develop and execute a strategic plan to align HubSpot capabilities with VSS’s Go-to-Market objectives.
  • Oversee the administration and optimization of the platform to ensure accurate data management.
  • Implement and manage CRM automation to streamline sales processes.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive CRM reports to provide actionable insights to the sales team and management.
  • Ensure data integrity and accuracy within the CRM system.
  • Learn about HubSpot support resources and develop relationships with outside consultants that have played a role in our HubSpot development and could do so again.

Go-to-Market process development and improvement

  • Design, document, and implement efficient sales processes and workflows.
  • Act as a communications conduit between sales team and service delivery leaders to collect feedback on current processes, develop SLA’s, and refine workflows.
  • Continuously assess and refine go-to-market processes to improve effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Develop training materials and conduct training sessions for the go-to-market team on new processes and tools.
  • Contribute to the establishment and accountability around best practices for the sales team to follow.
  • Develop and maintain sales playbooks, guides, proposal templates, contract templates, and other documentation.

Cross-departmental coordination

  • Act as a liaison between the sales, marketing, finance, and other departments to ensure seamless communication and collaboration.
  • Drive coordinated efforts to improve lead generation, qualification, and conversion processes.
  • Collaborate with companies acquired by Vertex (to date and in the future) to implement and refine unified go-to-market processes, enable cross sales efforts, and enhance the effectiveness of the sales effort for their own services.
  • Facilitate regular meetings and updates between sales and marketing and service delivery teams to align strategies and goals.

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITY:

  • This position does not currently have any direct reports.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

Education, Licensure, or Certification:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a rigorous discipline such as economics, engineering, business administration, analytics, or related field required. 

Required Work Experience or Related Experience:

  • Demonstrated success in go-to-market strategy development and operational execution.
  • Proven ability to synthesize large, complex data sets into actionable insights.
  • Track record of analyzing market development and expansion opportunities to drive growth.
  • Proficient in managing and optimizing CRM systems, preferably HubSpot, to enable sales effectiveness.
  • Experienced in designing and implementing sales strategies, processes, and tools that improve performance and scalability.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration or a related field.
  • A foundation in high-discipline environments such as management consulting, investment banking, or private equity.
  • Experience in a fast-growing company or startup environment.
  • Familiarity with additional sales and marketing tools and platforms.
  • Previous experience in a leadership role within go-to-market operations.
  • Certifications related to sales operations or CRM management (e.g. HubSpot certifications).

  • Top-notch analytical, organizational, and time management skills, along with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including presentation, persuasion, and negotiation skills.
  • Tenacious mindset towards driving sales growth.
  • Ability to deeply understand Vertex’s service offerings and think and collaborate with others on a strategic level about them.
  • Strong diplomacy and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships and demonstrate a high level of service and responsiveness.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and work well under pressure, demonstrating persistence, perseverance, integrity and patience along the way.
