Circare is a not-for-profit community based mental health agency located in Syracuse, New York. Circare programs are designed to help individuals and families, who have encountered certain obstacles develop the resources and supports to live a satisfying, naturally independent life.

The Employment Specialist will work in Circare’s Adult Community Based Services, which offer several programs to assist individuals find employment Home & Community Based Services (HCBS), Community Oriented Recovery & Empowerment (CORE), and ACCES-VR. For each of these programs, Employment is the Priority. Tailored to their needs, Specialists support provide job development, job placement and job retention services to clients who experience barriers to employment.

Pay Rate $23.08 per hour

  • Provide services to CORE, HCBS, and Access-VR clients, by helping them
  • Meet educational goals and needs.
  • Explore types of employment or volunteer work.
  • Conduct job searches.
  • Develop necessary skills such as writing resumes, interviewing, time management, etc.
  • Address barriers to employment and education.
  • Deliver client services in the community where they live.
  • Work with people in recovery with serious mental or behavioral health diagnoses, which may or may not include substance use disorder.
  • Perform work using person-centered plans, trauma-informed care, and other evidence-based practices.
  • Master and apply Program Guidance for CORE, HCBS, and ACCES-VR services
  • Must have a Bachelor's degree, preferably in Human Services, Rehabilitation Counselor, Education or a related field
  • Must have 1 year work experience as an employment counselor or 2 years as an education counselor
  • Must have at least 1 year work experience in mental or behavioral health
  • Must deliver client services in the community
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and own transportation
    • Circare’s insurance carrier requires that Circare employees who drive personal vehicles for work maintain minimum auto insurance coverage limits of at least $100,000/person; $300,000/accident and that employees provide HR with proof of current minimum insurance coverage (copy of Auto Liability Insurance Declaration Page) on their first day of employment. Employees are required to provide an updated Auto Liability Insurance Declaration Page to HR by expiration date on Declaration Page.
  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Good communication skills.
  • Multilingual a plus.
