JOB TITLE: PSM & Environmental Engineer
Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated PSM & Environmental Engineer to join our team. The primary focus of this role will be the management and continuous improvement of Process Safety Management (PSM) systems and processes at our site, with a secondary responsibility for supporting environmental compliance initiatives. This role is essential in ensuring the safety of personnel, the protection of equipment, and maintaining compliance with both PSM and environmental regulations. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure both process safety and environmental standards are upheld effectively.

Key Responsibilities:
- Process Safety Management (PSM) (80%):
- PSM Program Development & Implementation: Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the PSM program in line with OSHA and industry best practices.
- Risk Assessments & Hazard Analysis: Conduct and facilitate Process Hazard Analyses (PHA), including HAZOP, FMEA, and LOPA, for existing and new processes, ensuring the identification and mitigation of potential safety hazards.
- Safety Audits & Inspections: Oversee regular PSM audits, inspections, and safety reviews, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal safety policies.
- Incident Investigation & Root Cause Analysis: Investigate incidents, near-misses, and safety concerns related to process safety and ensure corrective actions are effectively implemented.
- Safety System Design & Improvement: Work with engineering and operations teams to design and implement safety systems and controls, continuously improving safety protocols and operational efficiency.
- Emergency Response & Safety Procedures: Develop and review emergency response plans, safety procedures, and ensure all employees are trained and familiar with safety protocols.
- Environmental Management (20%):
- Environmental Compliance: Ensure compliance with environmental laws and regulations (e.g., EPA, local/state regulations), including air, water, waste, and hazardous material management.
- Environmental Risk Assessment & Mitigation: Lead environmental impact assessments and work with cross-functional teams to implement mitigation strategies for identified environmental risks.
- Waste Management & Disposal: Manage waste management programs, ensuring proper handling, recycling, and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous materials.
- Environmental Permitting & Reporting: Oversee the preparation and submission of environmental permits and regulatory reports, ensuring compliance with all reporting requirements.
- Training & Awareness: Assist in training employees on environmental policies and best practices, fostering a culture of environmental responsibility and awareness within the organization.
- Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Safety Engineering, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in Process Safety Management (PSM), with a solid understanding of safety systems, hazard analysis, and process safety regulations (e.g., OSHA PSM).
- Experience in environmental compliance and regulatory reporting is a plus but not required for the primary role.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., PSM, HAZWOPER, OSHA, etc.) are advantageous.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong understanding of Process Safety Management (PSM) principles, risk management techniques, and safety audits.
- Familiarity with environmental compliance regulations, such as air, water, and waste management, and a general understanding of environmental impact mitigation.
- Proficient in tools for data analysis.
