Position Overview:
South Georgia Pecan Company is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Accounting Manager to oversee the day-to-day accounting operations for both our El Paso and Valdosta locations. This position will play a key role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, managing complex accounting processes, and implementing improvements to streamline workflows. The Accounting Manager will also provide leadership to the accounting teams, drive process enhancements, and support multiple audits throughout the year.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage Day-to-Day Accounting Operations: Supervise and support the Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) teams to ensure the smooth execution of daily accounting functions across both locations.
- Month-End Close: Lead the month-end close process, ensuring all financials are accurate and completed promptly.
- Inshell Raw Material Purchases & Inventory Management: Oversee the purchase, tracking, and valuation of inshell raw materials. Monitor inventory levels and provide insightful reporting as needed throughout the season.
- Inshell Process Management: Manage the complex inshell accounting processes and supervise an Accounting Clerk dedicated to inshell activities, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in all related tasks.
- Property Taxes: Oversee the accurate reporting and management of property taxes for both the El Paso and Valdosta plants, ensuring compliance and timely payments.
- Capital Asset Management: Ensure the accurate booking of capital assets and depreciation schedules, working with the team to ensure proper asset management practices.
- Excel Expertise: Utilize advanced Excel skills to build and refine spreadsheets that enhance accounting workflows and reporting processes.
- Sage 100 Management: Use Sage 100 extensively for daily accounting tasks and continuous process improvement to optimize efficiency within the system.
- AP Automation Implementation: Play a leadership role in the implementation of a new AP automation system and assist with ongoing improvements to the system to improve the overall workflow.
- Audit Support: Assist with multiple audits annually, particularly those related to in-shell reporting, working closely with auditors and other departments to ensure compliance and accurate reporting.
- Cross-Department Communication: Regularly communicate with other departments to support their accounting needs, offering guidance and ensuring smooth operations across teams.
- External Coordination: Collaborate with external contacts, including vendors, auditors, and banks, to maintain strong relationships and support operational needs.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Proven experience as an Accounting Manager, Senior Accountant, or similar role, with strong exposure to accounts payable/receivable, month-end close, and inventory management.
- High proficiency with Excel, particularly in developing complex spreadsheets and reports.
- Strong knowledge and experience working with Sage 100 or similar accounting software.
- Familiarity with in-shell inventory and raw material purchases is a plus.
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
