Video Storyteller

Substack is building a new economic engine for culture, with over 5 million paid subscriptions to creators on the platform. We empower independent writers, artists, videographers, podcasters, and creators of all types to create, share, and make a living off their work through subscriptions, while offering them creative freedom, ownership, and a direct connection to their audiences.

As Substack’s Video Storyteller, you’ll craft original content that brings the spirit of Substack to life across our social and editorial channels, especially on Substack Notes, TikTok, and Instagram. You’ll spotlight the writers and creators defining this cultural moment, create new editorial series and video formats, and capture what makes Substack the place where good culture is made and discovered.

This position reports to the editor of the Substack Post and will work closely with the Creative and Social Strategist.

Core responsibilities:

• Create, shoot, and edit short-form videos that reflect the energy, intelligence, and personality of Substack and the writers and creators who post here
• Launch original video series tailored to social platforms—bringing new ideas to the table and executing them with style
• Help shape the voice and visual identity of Substack across social media
• Track performance and cultural resonance (not just views), and iterate accordingly
• Manage the content calendar and collaborate with other teams to keep everything running smoothly
  
  

About You (Minimum Requirements):

• Experience producing short-form videos from soup to nuts. A background as a creator is a plus!
• A creative point of view, and a desire to tell stories that feel alive, not canned
• Strong editorial instincts and an eye for what’s culturally relevant
• Great communication skills across mediums and teams
• Ambitious, with a high sense of initiative
• Passionate about free expression, empowering creators, and reimagining media
• Located in San Francisco (preferred), Los Angeles, or New York City
  
  

Substack offers a competitive compensation package that includes salary, equity, and exceptional benefits. Our cash compensation salary range for this role is $90,000 to $120,000/year. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.
