Description

The Math Interventionist is responsible for planning and coordinating the elementary and/or middle school math program.

Requirements

Duties of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Develop, administer and/or facilitate assessments to determine student math levels.
  • Create instructional math plans to match student ability and learning styles.
  • Guide children through math activities to help them overcome obstacles.
  • Consult with parents and teachers to recommend at-home strategies to improve math skills.
  • Assist Classroom Teachers in planning math programs and instruction.
  • Assist all teachers with teaching/learning strategies that promote math comprehension.
  • Model math instruction in elementary and middle school classrooms.
  • Maintain current and efficient records including the preparation of reports and presentations.
  • Assist in the creation and implementation of after school math tutoring programs.
  • Coordinate the Academy mathematics and primary math program both horizontally and vertically.
  • Assist Classroom Teachers in planning the mathematics program and elementary and/or middle school programs.
  • Coordinate the developmental aspects of the elementary and/or middle school programs.
  • Collaboratively select and coordinate (with the approval of the Principal) all math materials used in the classrooms.
  • Assist in assuring continuity between regular programs and other special areas.
  • Assist teachers with instructional interventions.
  • Implement in the Academy the curriculum outcomes associated with mathematics.
  • Maintain current and efficient records including the preparation of reports.
  • Submit appropriate data and reports.
  • Monitor student progress towards achieving instructional objectives and goals.
  • Communicate effectively within the educational community and with parents on a regular basis.
  • Report incidents (e.g. fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse) for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment and adhering to the Code and administrative and/or Academy policies.
  • Meet professional responsibilities.
  • Maintain and upgrade professional skills.
  • Promote and maintain positive Academy-staff and pupil-teacher-parent relationships.
  • Adhere to the teacher code of conduct.
  • Support and implement the discipline philosophy of the Academy, as well as disciplinary procedures designed for individual students.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding students.
  • Attend and participate in all required in-service training sessions and become familiar with the inclusion philosophy and procedures as outlined in AIMS’ policy.
  • Ensure adherence to safety procedures.
  • Other related duties as assigned by the Principal.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required; master’s degree preferred.
  • Except as otherwise provided by law, the Academy shall use certificated teachers according to state board rule.
  • Two years of teaching experience.
  • Experience with elementary/middle school programs dependent on area of assignment.
  • Experience with integrated curriculum.
  • Satisfactory criminal background check and unprofessional conduct check as required by School Safety Legislation.
