Summary

The Consulting Actuary will apply consulting, technical, and project management skills to service retirement plan and OPEB valuation needs for our multiemployer, private and public sector clients, as well as the PBGC.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

The following list of duties and responsibilities are examples of the work successful candidates will be asked to perform. Candidates may not be involved with all of these functions as a regular part of their duties. We are looking for multiple candidates, and some may focus more on these duties than others.

  • Serve as lead on small client teams, oversee project management and client deliverables, and serve as main point of contact for clients.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with clients through effective communication and responsive service; address client inquiries and provide timely solutions.
  • Communicate to clients in a clear and concise manner, both written and verbal.
  • Expand client relationships and identify growth opportunities for retirement and other practices.
  • Manage deadlines, client-set budgets, and develop working methodologies for several complex projects at a time.
  • Support Senior Consulting Actuaries on large client teams.
  • Primarily responsible for billing on client engagements.
  • Manage junior staff deadlines.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to junior staff.
  • Ensure compliance with internal quality control and peer review guidelines.
  • Participate in marketing opportunities including proposals, publications, and presentations.
  • Stay informed of changes to rules, legislation and regulations related to single employer, multiemployer, public sector pension plans, and/or PBGC.
  • Demonstrate Bolton’s values and mission through actions and words.

  • Takes initiative to learn through formal or on the job training and continued actuarial education.
  • Support ad-hoc projects when necessary.
  • Provide feedback on process improvement and quality control.
  • Provide mentorship, training, development, and feedback to junior staff.
  • Develop technical expertise in primary and secondary sectors.
  • Identify process improvements and develop and implement solutions.
  • Demonstrate an ability to understand and identify client’s needs.
  • Engage with other practices to have a basic understanding of their services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Qualifications:

Education/Experience

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; and a minimum of eight years of significant actuarial experience with valuations, assumptions setting, experience analysis, plan design, strategic planning and benefit program software.

Certificates And Licenses

E.A., A.S.A, or F.S.A required.

Project Management

Strong time and project management skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This job may have supervisory responsibilities.

Travel

Minimal overnight travel (up to 10%) by land and/or air.
