Position Summary
The Data Strategist supports the Lead Data Strategist and the Senior Director of Data Strategy in leading efforts to build and maintain data integrity and privacy, make population level data available to the Promise Partnership, and support reporting and visualization of data for decision making. This position guides the collection, organization, understanding, visualization, and use of these data.
Essential Functions
The team member regularly communicates with internal and external stakeholders and must be able to exchange accurate information in oral and written formats, in person, over the phone, and via other devices. The team member must be able to transcribe, read extensively, prepare and analyze data and figures, operate a computer and other standard office machinery. The team member is required to regularly travel to offsite locations to set-up presentations and displays in physical and electronic mediums. The team member must have the ability to lift, carry, push and/or pull objects weighing up to 50lbs.
The employee is required to work primarily in-person, in our UP offices during core business hours Monday -- Thursday, with the option to work remotely on Fridays. Utah's Promise is structured as a 36-hour work week with Friday afternoons off.
Compensation & Benefits

Essential Functions
- Data Management & Strategic Support: Guide team members through processes to identify appropriate outcome measures and strategies aligned to root causes. Identify and act on opportunities to develop new data measures and disaggregate data. Be a go-to resource for identifying data to better inform programs and strategies.
- Data Infrastructure: Support the collection, organization, and reporting of data in Salesforce. Support team members in accessing and inputting high-quality, program/strategy-level data.
- Analysis: Use basic data analysis skills to make meaning out of data, create relevant data comparisons, and assist team members in making data-driven decisions. Integrate qualitative data (including insights from community members most impacted by our current systems) into reporting, data visualization, and decision-making processes.
- Visualization: Work with partners and team members to make data more accessible to our stakeholders. Manage and develop Tableau dashboards to visualize data. Train team members on how to navigate dashboards independently.
- Reporting: Develop standard and ad hoc reports using program/strategy-level data to inform impact reporting, proposal development, and continuous improvement efforts.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Technical Skills. Ability to anticipate the impact of emerging technologies and make adjustments to adopt new technologies (and to expand knowledge within the technologies they know well); and to build capacity among others to access, understand, describe, and use data and technology platforms. Technologies include but are not limited to: Salesforce, Tableau, Power BI, Domo, Asana, Excel, and other statistical packages (R, SQL, etc.).

- Strategic Mindset. Ability to anticipate future needs/realities; to help stakeholders strategize around what data might help them move key work forward; and to draw connections across people, plans, and conversations.
- Commun cation. Ability to write and speak with diverse stakeholders; to discuss complex data topics in ways that are appropriate to the audience; and to use qualitative and quantitative data to tell stories that inspire action.
- Continuous Improvement. Confidence and humility to ask questions, admit and address challenges, "fail forward," and learn and test continuous improvement tools and techniques.
- Adaptability. Ability to operate with curiosity and confidence when things are uncertain or the way forward is unclear. Ability to deploy new skills and try new approaches as conditions change or opportunities emerge.
- Project Management. Ability to define and manage a project's scope, resource requirements, dependencies, steps, and timelines, while also attuning to relationship management needs.
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience in a relevant field.
- Two years data and research experience, including analysis, reporting, and visualization.
- Experience working with data visualization software(s) such as Tableau, Power BI, or Domo. Proven ability to visualize data in user-friendly ways required.
- Experience organizing data in relational databases and complex spreadsheets. Advanced Excel skills. Salesforce experience preferred.
- Experience identifying meaningful measurements for strategy or program-level data, including quantitative and qualitative data.
- Experience designing, coding, and analyzing survey data.
