
Job Summary
The director of operations oversees all adult instruction and child literacy programs. The
director of operations works closely with the chief executive officer to ensure program quality,
monitor data collection, manage program budgets, and maintain community contacts.

- Direct implementation of adult instruction programs and child literacy programs
- Support chief executive officer (CEO) with organizational development and grant writing/reporting
- Assure program compliance with National Reporting System data requirements as well as requirements for various funding sources
- Collaborate with stakeholders to develop programming on multiple adult education, childhood literacy, and workforce development initiatives Interpret and analyze outcomes and key performance indicators of adult education at local, regional, and state levels
- Provide oversight and guidance on day-to-day operations to ensure efficiency, productivity, and mission success
- Manage budgets for grant-funded programs
- Attend board and staff meetings
- Directly supervise program and administrative staff
- Interview, hire, and train employees
- Plan, assign, and direct work
- Appraise performance; conduct annual staff performance evaluations to ensure compliance with company policies and establish goals for employee development
- Approve payroll and time-off requests
- Approve and code operational expenses
- Address complaints and resolve problems
- Conduct staff and program trainings and meetings
- Prepare bi-monthly operations report and present information at board meetings
- Oversee facilities and ensure their suitability and fitness for service
- Keep abreast of current trends and local and national news related to adult and childhood literacy
- Participate in board committees, task forces, and events
- Support the TLA board and staff on ancillary tasks and projects and other duties as assigned
- Coordinate purchasing and distribution of educational materials
- Pass and maintain the GED Chief Examiner certification and oversee the high school equivalency testing program
