Position Description

You will serve as a PUBLIC AFFAIRS SPECIALIST in the COMMUNICATIONS OFFICE of NAVAIRWARCENAC DIV, reporting to the F-35 Joint Program Office. The duty location of this position is Arlington, VA.

Position Duties/Responsibilities

  • You will prepare mass communication materials for proactive external release to attract print, broadcast, and social media coverage, to inform and educate the general and specialized publics about the organization’s programs and activities.
  • You will analyze the command’s most difficult and complex public affairs problems and issues and determine new approaches for informing various individuals and key groups.
  • You will plan, direct, execute, and update internal and external communications plans to convey complex information about programs and program-related research with national, international, political, and budgetary impacts.
  • You will establish and maintain effective working relationships with members of the news media, and specialist groups interested in the command’s programs, including various local, national, international, and trade media.
  • You will ensure timely, accurate, and credible responses to media and public inquiries, acting as command spokesperson as required, often requiring detailed explanations of negative comments made on the command’s activities or performance.
  • You will advise senior leadership on likely public affairs implications of command endeavors involving highly significant policy matters, guided by general public affairs policies, but frequently exercising considerable judgment.
  • You will assist with assessment of suitability, probable impact of and coordinate approval of all materials prepared by contractor and government personnel intended for public release, including brochures, videos, presentations, and advertising.
  • You will establish and maintain effective working relationships with management, officials and personnel to ensure the success of communications efforts, nationally or internationally known groups or individuals from outside the command.
