Volunteers of America National Services is seeking a Staff Development Coordinator to join our Florida team. This Registered Nurse will be based out of Cape Coral/Fort Myers area and provide clinical education support for all Florida facilities.

M-F 9:00 AM-5:30 PM (Must be able to travel to FL facilities)

Salary: $79,000-$95,000 (Based on years of Experience)

About the Job: The Staff Development Coordinator is responsible for designing, coordinating, and delivering comprehensive education programs that promote high-quality resident care, regulatory compliance, and workforce development across assigned facilities. This role ensures consistent and effective orientation, competency validation, in-service training, and continuing education for clinical and non-clinical staff, in alignment with organizational standards and strategic priorities. Working as part of the Performance Excellence Team, the Staff Development Coordinator operates independently from local operations to ensure objectivity while serving as a collaborative partner to facility leadership. The role supports survey readiness, quality improvement, and policy implementation by integrating clinical and compliance priorities into training initiatives. In addition, the Staff Development Coordinator helps standardize educational tools across regions, advises on the annual LMS training plan, and contributes to facility assessments by identifying staff skill and competency needs. Ultimately, this role plays a crucial part in fostering a consistent culture of excellence, learning, and accountability throughout the organization.

Essentials:

Staff Development Planning and Implementation:

  • Plans, develops, organizes, implements, and evaluates comprehensive staff education and orientation programs for facilities within the assigned region.
  • Collaborates with Staff Development Coordinators from other regions to develop and maintain a standardized, VOANS-wide staff education plan focused on high-quality resident care and survey preparedness.
  • Develops and maintains an annual educational calendar to ensure consistent, timely, and relevant training across all regional facilities and between regions.
  • Participates in the identification of state and system-wide educational requirements and advises on the development of the annual Learning Management System (LMS) training plan.
  • Supports facilities in conducting and updating the Facility Assessment, providing input on staff education, competencies, and skill development required to meet resident care needs and regulatory expectations.
  • Ensures alignment of educational initiatives with system-level strategic goals, quality focus areas, and performance improvement plans.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of training interventions through staff feedback, quality/performance data, and post-training performance metrics, making adjustments to maximize impact.


Orientation, In-Service, and Continuing Education:

  • Provides the clinical component of general orientation, ensuring that new staff are familiarized with the facility’s mission, philosophy, goals, policies and procedures, key personnel, physical layout, core operational systems, and specialized services.
  • Conducts clinical skill competency evaluations for new hires and participates in the annual reassessment of clinical competence to ensure staff meet expected standards of care.
  • Assists facility leadership in planning and executing monthly/quarterly in-service education sessions and ensures appropriate documentation of attendance and participation.
  • Conducts and facilitates group in-service, continuing education sessions, one-on-one reinforcement, and “Just in Time” training based on emerging priorities or individual performance gaps.
  • Partners with department supervisors to support individualized job orientation and role-specific competency development.


Required Qualifications:

  • Current licensure in the state of employment as a Registered Nurse.
  • Registered Nurse with minimum of two (2) years experience in nursing in a long-term care setting or related experiences and/or adult education.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of gerontology, rehabilitative, and medical-surgical nursing care.
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in concepts and techniques of adult education.
  • Knowledge of State and Federal regulatory requirements for long-term care.


Education Documentation, Compliance, and Monitoring:

In coordination with Human Resources, manages and maintains documentation of staff participation in all education programs to demonstrate compliance with internal expectations and external regulatory requirements.

  • Conducts routine audits of training records and LMS data to identify gaps or deficiencies in compliance, and takes or recommends corrective action in alignment with the organizational Improvement Action Plan (IAP) process.
  • In collaboration with the Performance Excellence Team, reviews and monitors internal data sources (e.g., incidents, audits, survey results, quality indicators) to identify training needs proactively and integrates them into education plans.
  • Supports facility-level corrective actions in response to external survey deficiencies or internal audit findings that require re-education or retention of staff.


Cross-Functional Collaboration and Leadership:

  • Functions as a member of the Performance Excellence Team and maintains objectivity by reporting through a structure that is independent from local operational leadership.
  • Serves as a regional educational resource and subject matter lead, collaborating with other Staff Development Coordinators to create, standardize, and update educational materials, tools, and content.
  • Collaborates with the broader clinical and quality team to understand current priorities, risks, and performance trends, ensuring these are reflected in educational planning and delivery.
  • Participates in QAA/QAPI teams and organizational initiatives as directed, contributing educational expertise to support quality improvement and workforce development.
  • Provides support for training and communication efforts related to new or updated policies and procedures by helping to identify impacted stakeholders and coordinating or delivering appropriate education, particularly for frontline and direct care staff.


Staff Engagement, Coaching, and Culture:

  • Acts as a role model and coach in reinforcing VOANS’s values, philosophy, and desired workplace culture.
  • Supports the development and implementation of the VOANS coach program and participates in department and facility staff meetings to remain informed of evolving operational and workforce needs.
  • Provides individualized coaching and support to staff in addressing performance concerns, skill gaps, or development needs identified through observation, leadership feedback, or performance data.
