Technical Requirement:

  • Sample Processor-I
  • Required:

Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.

A minimum of 0-1 year of experience accessioning, data entry and specimen

handling.

  • Sample Processor-II
  • Required:

Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.

A minimum of 2-3 years of experience accessioning, data entry and specimen

handling.

  • Senior/Lead Sample Processor
  • Required:

Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.

A minimum of 4-8 years of experience accessioning, data entry and specimen

handling and demonstrated leadership and training experience.

Skill Requirement

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Products (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Working experience with laboratory information management systems (LIMS)
  • Experience working with high functioning teams in a Clinical (CLIA) Laboratory production setting.
  • Commensurate with role, applicants will have strong data entry skills and the ability to

recommend or take appropriate action to resolve problems

Key Responsibilities/Tasks/Competencies

  • All Levels
  • Evaluate specimens received by the laboratory and organize workflow to provide

optimum efficiency of testing and turnaround time of results.

  • Prepare samples for testing by spinning blood samples in a centrifuge and splitting

plasma from buffy coat.

  • Register patient orders in LIMS system.
  • Takes part in ordering and tracking add-on testing and cancellations.
  • Point of contact for reporting testing delays from the laboratory to customer service.
  • Assists in writing and maintaining standard operating procedures related to sample

preparation and accessioning.

  • Contribute to ongoing process improvement efforts.
  • Provide concise and informative documentation of all work performed, consistent with

the appropriate documentation systems.

  • Aide and perform tasks associated with Inventory Management.
  • Update personal skills and knowledge to remain current and become efficient and

proficient in the position.

  • Sample Processor-I
  • Will work closely with the Molecular Supervisor(s), Lead Sample Processor, and other

Sample Processors on work prioritization, and focus on retaining, recalling, and

understanding the processes for min-accessioning, sample preparation and splitting, and

max-accessioning.

  • The employee is expected to develop self-sufficiency in these areas to be considered for

a Sample Processor-II position, meaning the associate no longer requires outside

assistance to complete min-accessioning, sample preparation and splitting, and maxaccessioning processes

  • Sample Processor-II
  • A Sample Processor II retains and understands the processes for sample preparation and

sample processing and will begin to apply this experience to troubleshooting as needed.

  • Works closely with Sample Processor- I to assist in the development of the skills outlined

in this job description and acts as a model for their development in moving into a Sample

Processor-II role.

  • Under the direction of Laboratory Leadership, the Sample Processor II is expected to work

at times independently to manage work prioritization, show competency in all areas of

accessioning, and propose strategies for troubleshooting.

  • The employee is expected to fully attain self-sufficiency in the min-accessioning, sample

preparation and splitting, max-accessioning processes, and working with the Senior/Lead

Sample processor with troubleshooting to be considered for a Senior/Lead Sample

Processor position.

  • Senior Sample Processor

Core expertise and experience with accessioning, sample preparation, and sample

processing that allows for troubleshooting and ability to lead process improvement

initiatives.

  • Works closely with Sample Processor(s) - I and II to assist in the development of the

skills outlined in this job description and acts as a model for their development in

moving into a Senior Sample Processor role.

  • Under the direction of Laboratory Leadership, a Senior Sample Processor is expected to

work independently to manage work prioritization, show competency in all areas of

accessioning, and propose strategies for troubleshooting.

  • The employee is expected to fully attain self-sufficiency in these areas to be considered

for a Lead Sample Processor position, meaning the associate no longer requires outside

assistance to complete min-accessioning, sample preparation and splitting, maxaccessioning processes, and can troubleshoot items with minimal guidance required

  • Will participate in developing technical operating procedures specific to new process

development.

  • Lead Sample Processor
  • Strong management, organization, and communication skills.
  • Expertise and experience with accessioning, sample preparation, and sample processing

will be used to lead different process improvement initiatives and, in the identification,

and implementation of quality management systems that ensure optimal sample

processing methods are in place.

  • Uses project management experience to drive initiatives.
  • Expected to work closely with Sample Processor- I, II, Sr. and drive the development of

the skills outlined in this job description; acts as a model for their development in all

respects.

  • Under the direction of Laboratory Leadership, the Lead Sample Processor is expected to

work independently to manage work prioritization, show competency in all areas of

accessioning, participate in quality assurance documentation, and propose and

implement strategies for troubleshooting.

  • The employee is expected to be the subject matter expert in these areas.
  • Will participate in developing technical operating procedures specific to new process

development
