Description
The ELA Literacy Specialist serves as a key instructional leader focused on improving literacy outcomes for all students. This role supports classroom teachers by providing coaching, professional development, and modeling best practices in literacy instruction aligned with state standards. The Literacy Specialist works collaboratively with administrators, interventionists, and instructional staff to promote data-driven instruction and literacy achievement across grade levels.

The Literacy Specialist works collaboratively with administrators, interventionists, and instructional staff to promote data-driven instruction and literacy achievement across grade levels.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and support effective literacy instruction in alignment with state standards and district curriculum.
- Coach and mentor teachers through one-on-one support, co-teaching, modeling lessons, and facilitating professional learning communities.
- Analyze student achievement data to inform instructional planning and intervention strategies.
- Support the development and implementation of tiered reading interventions for students at risk of reading failure.
- Lead and support school-wide literacy initiatives and curriculum development.
- Facilitate professional development workshops and training sessions focused on ELA strategies and literacy best practices.
- Collaborate with school leaders and instructional teams to align literacy instruction across content areas.
- Stay current with research-based practices in literacy instruction, assessment, and technology integration.
- Monitor and report on the effectiveness of literacy programs and interventions.
- Co-teaching and working with students in Tier 2/Tier 3 interventions.
Bachelor’s degree in Education; Master’s degree in Literacy, Curriculum & Instruction, or related field preferred.
- Valid teaching certification in ELA or Reading (state-specific).
- Minimum 3–5 years of successful ELA/literacy classroom teaching experience.
- Proven ability to coach and support adult learners.
- Strong knowledge of reading/literacy development, instructional practices, and assessments.
- Familiarity with data analysis tools and formative/summative assessments.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
