The Lab Processor position plays a critical part in clinical research by ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of laboratory operations. The Lab Processor is responsible for handling and processing biological specimens in a laboratory setting. These specimens may include blood, urine, fecal, saliva, nasal, as well as tissue samples. The Lab Processor requires focus and close attention to detail. The Lab Processor will follow all laboratory policies and procedures while maintaining accurate data reporting practices to ensure consistent and diligent execution of specimen collection and processing. The Lab Processor also ensures specimens are labeled and stored correctly. The Lab Processor position reports to Laboratory Management.

Position Responsibilities
- Processes biological specimens in accordance with established protocols and procedures
- Ensures specimens are labeled, stored, and transported in accordance with regulatory requirements
- Receives and prepares samples for laboratory analysis and processing
- Assures correct samples are collected for each subject visit
- Verifies specimen documentation, including requisition, is complete and correct
- Verifies accuracy of volunteer specimen details
- Examines specimens for adequacy and appropriateness
- Captures specimen data on laboratory processing logs and/or electronically enters information accordingly
- Maintains a clean and organized work area
- Assists with the maintenance and cleaning of laboratory equipment
- Labels and prepares specimen aliquots
- Centrifuges specimens
- Disposes of specimens as directed by study sponsor
- Prepares specimens for transport to local reference laboratory or central laboratory
- Assists phlebotomy department when necessary
- Passes IATA shipping certification, assisting with shipments as needed
- Provides support to other lab department staff
- Exhibits willingness to cross-train within the department
- Reviews protocol information to ensure accuracy when working with specific study related specimens
- Assists staff with query resolution regarding specimen documentation and collection
- Reads, understands, and follows applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), including safety and quality procedures
- Restock supplies, as needed
- Participates in improving lab efficiency, quality, and cooperation
- Manages change effectively as it happens
- Comply with applicable laws and regulations
- Completes tasks assigned to the Lab Department, as needed
- Associate’s degree in science or related discipline
- Previous experience in a clinical laboratory or related work environment
- Familiarity with or ability to learn clinical trial management system software
