Key Responsibilities
- Directional Driller Duties:
- Operate HDD equipment (Ditch Witch, Vermeer, or equivalent) to install conduit and cable underground.
- Execute bore plans in accordance with engineering specifications and site conditions.
- Adapt drilling technique to terrain and material types including clay, rock, and sand.
- Perform daily safety checks and routine maintenance on drill rigs and support equipment.
- Communicate with the locator to maintain safe and accurate bore path guidance.
- Comply with all safety procedures and on-site operational standards.
- Locator Duties:
- Use locating tools (DigiTrak F5/F2, Subsite TK Series) to track drill head location and depth in real time.
- Identify, mark, and log underground utilities before and during drilling operations.
- Interpret construction drawings, utility prints, and 811 tickets to guide bore paths.
- Collaborate closely with the driller to adjust trajectory and avoid subsurface conflicts.
- Maintain accurate daily field records including bore logs, utility locations, and footage.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in directional drilling, locating, or both.
- Skilled with HDD and locating equipment (DigiTrak, Subsite, Ditch Witch, Vermeer).
- Strong knowledge of telecom/fiber optic installation methods.
- Familiarity with Texas, Nevada, or Florida utility codes, permitting, and One Call/811 procedures.
- Ability to read and interpret bore profiles, maps, and construction plans.
- Valid Driver's License required (CDL Class A or B is a plus).
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred (or willingness to obtain).
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
- Must be willing and able to travel 100% for assigned projects.
