What you’ll be doing.
The Medical Director is a board-certified MD responsible for the medical operations supporting our Travel Assistance and insurance business. The position will support a team of doctors to provide clinical assessments and input related to medical assistance cases as well as after the fact travel insurance claims to ensure high standards of medical operations (securing and proactively steering the ongoing medical cases and advising on insurance claims). The position will work collaboratively with all dedicated teams related to the local medical operations department to ensure compliance with medical regulations, contribute to global medical standards as part of the Global Medical Team in agreement with the global travel strategy of EA (Holding strategy), and facilitate worldwide medical transport for customers in need. This position reports to the Director of the Customer Service Department.
Medical Assistance/Case Management
This position requires reporting into the Pembroke Pines, FL office for 1 week out of every 4 weeks, or approximately 25% of the time.

What you’ll be doing.

Medical Assistance/Case Management
- Proactively triage and manage the active portfolio of travel medical assistance cases to ensure timely and appropriate care is bring provided by on location providers in accordance with both local and global guidelines
- Establish / update internal clinical guidelines in collaboration with Medical Operations Manager and Global Chief Medical Officer of EA Group
- Determines the best course of action for patients receiving care worldwide and provide indications for medical transport based on medical necessity and/or insurance policy
- Act as the senior medical escalation point medical case direction (i.e. for medical cases, repatriation, Red Flags, or any delicate case queries)
- Provide support to operational teams through effective communication with coordinators and agents as required while acting as a clinical resource as needed
- Ensure optimum communication and support between MD, RN, and operational teams, facilitating teamwork.
- Review and provide medical assessment of escalated claims relative to medical history and/or preexisting conditions
- Provide expertise to support Product and pricing teams in product and policy design.
- Support Business Development by providing input and expertise to support RFP and Bother Business development opportunities.
- Participate in the medical audit program including post case reviews of evacuations, repatriations or other complex and/or high cost cases.
- Provide clinical oversight and support of the local Provider Network in collaboration with the Network Manager.
- Direct management as reporting manager for the Medical Doctors on roster, ensuring a 24/7/365 MD coverage is in place, ensuring regular 1:1s and performance review rhythms are in place
- Define and assign work for Medical Doctors, monitoring activities and medical assistance cases
- Evaluate the performance of all medical product offerings and/or services offered to Travel Insurance partners
- Acts as a resource to MDs on aviation medicine and travel assistance service delivery providing education and guidance
- Acts as a resource to RNs and Operations staff to provide education and guidance on medical and assistance related topics
- Lead the local cascading, development, and embedding of the EA medical assistance culture and act as a role model, embedding EA We Care culture and competencies in day-to-day medical assistance activities
- Organize and lead regular meetings with the local medical team
- Minimum of four years Emergency Room clinical experience in acute care setting and/or case management experience
- Knowledge of indications/contraindications of medical transport, particularly aeromedical
- Proven ability to make critical decisions regarding medical transfers, evacuations, and repatriations
- Strong problem-solving skills to manage complex and sensitive medical cases
- Full registration and license to practice medicine in US
- Remains in good standing with appropriate professional regulatory body
- Ability to oversee and lead the medical teams in all aspect of services provided.
- Excellent understanding of Clinical Governance practices
- Maintains confidentiality of all pertinent client/member (patient) information.??
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
- Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to interact positively with clients, providers and professional staff. Must represent the organization in a professional and knowledgeable manner
- Strong leadership skills to manage and develop a medical team, fostering a high-performance and collaborative culture
- Bilingual (any language)
- Previous experience as a flight doctor
- Previous experience as a medical escort in a commercial flight setting
- High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED) required
- Medical Degree (MD/DO) required
- Valid medical license
- Current DEA Licensure
