Summary

The Safety Coordinator assists with the development and implementation of comprehensive safety and health programs to ensure compliance with NTTA policies. This is accomplished by assisting in identifying hazards, ensuring compliance with federal, state and local safety regulations, ensuring employees are knowledgeable of safety and health hazards, completing inspections and incident investigations, implementing safety training, and maintaining records. Other duties include assisting in monitoring trends, working with vendors and outside agencies, and responding to emergencies. This position may require work outside of normal business hours to include nights, weekends, and holidays due to the types of issues needing immediate attention.

  • Retention Bonus: $2000***
  • Pay Range: $22.64/hr - $29.78/hr***

Responsibilities

  • Develops safety and health programs by identifying and researching potential training topics, identifying requirements and best practices, creating presentations, and identifying and obtaining any supplemental training materials.
  • Presents safety training programs to various departments. This includes coordinating schedules, room reservations, preparing materials, tracking attendance, and obtaining post-training feedback.
  • Provides administrative support for safety training programs presented by the Safety Manager and Safety Specialist. This includes coordinating schedules, room reservations, preparing materials, tracking attendance, and post-training feedback.
  • Schedules DOT/CDL quarterly random drug and alcohol testing and maintain DOT/CDL driver files and other miscellaneous DOT/CDL files as needed. Assists other departments with questions pertaining to DOT/CDL rules and regulations.
  • Works in conjunction with the Safety Specialist to respond to safety issues identified through the safety observation program.
  • Develops strategies to identify and reduce hazards, provides training to employees on the new safety protocol, follows up to ensure new safety protocols are being followed, partners with the department to update operating procedures, or guidelines, as needed.
  • Identify outside training vendors, schedule classes, observe/evaluate the vendors training, and obtain feedback from training attendees.
  • Assist with departmental safety committees and the NTTA Safety Committee, which could include serving as the chair, taking minutes, notes, and tracking action items.
  • Participates in safety incentive and awareness activities, assist with presentations, and maintain records.
  • Assists with Accident Review Committee (ARC) case investigations by gathering and preparing cases for review at ARC meetings. Takes minutes at each ARC meeting.
  • Develops and maintains standard operating procedures (SOP’s) and standard operating guidelines (SOG’s).
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • 6-months/1-year of training or education beyond a high school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 1 – 3 years’ experience.
  • Valid class “C” Texas driver’s license.
  • Ability to work outside of normal business hours to include nights, weekends, and holidays due to Safety & Emergency issues requiring immediate attention.

Preferred

  • OSHA (or similar authority) certifications related to roadway and/or construction.
  • DOT/CDL knowledge.
