Summary

Responsible for installing and maintaining instrumentation for monitoring and controlling water systems. Also responsible for installing and maintaining motor controls and electrical systems for water distribution and wastewater collection systems.

Pay Range: $22.20 - $28.79 (Depending on qualifications and experience)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Maintain and repair electrical and electronic components such as SCADA systems, security systems, transmitters, receivers, etc.
  • Maintain, repair, and install monitor and process control instrumentation.
  • Perform hardware and software design modifications to field instruments, wiring, programmable logic controllers, fiber optic communication links and computers used in the SCADA system.
  • Research on upgrades to keep current on the proper industry technology and equipment.
  • Program process control systems such as Bristol SCADA systems, Square D and Allen-Bradley PLCs.
  • Install security systems at water facilities and lift stations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree
  • 3 years related experience

Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

Preferred Qualifications

Education/ Experience:

  • Associate’s degree in electronics or instrumentation technology or a related field of study
  • 3-5 years experience in industrial instrumentation maintenance, repair, calibration standards and procedures, telemetry equipment and SCADA systems Class C Water Distribution License and Class II Wastewater Collection License

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Comprehensive knowledge of state and federal Water and Wastewater Utility regulations
  • Extensive knowledge of SCADA and PLC programming
  • Skill in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel)
  • Skilled in fabrication and welding
  • Excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to apply principles, methods, techniques and practices to perform various tasks and duties.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Valid Class C Texas Driver’s License
  • Must obtain Class B CDL Texas Driver's License within 9 months of hire date.
  • Must obtain TCEQ Class D Water Distribution License and Class I Wastewater Collection License within 18 months of hire date.
  • Must obtain TCEQ Class C Water Distribution License and a Class II Wastewater Collections License within 3 years of hire date.

Physical Requirements / Work Environment

The incumbent works typically in an indoor and outdoor environment and may be subjected to extremes of inclement weather, noxious odors and fumes, as well as exposure to the hazards of high-voltage electrical shock, raw sewage, oxygen deficient and poisonous atmospheres, communicable diseases, high levels of vibration and noise, moving machine parts and crush hazards. Physical tasks may include lifting, crawling, bending, stooping, climbing ladders, scaffolding, descending underground and lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
