About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Engineer to oversee the design of facilities associated with expansion and maintenance capital projects. This role involves working with third-party engineering firms to ensure compliance with company and industry standards, while managing project budgets and schedules. The Senior Engineer will liaise with internal functional groups to ensure project and company requirements are met and incorporated into design deliverables.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the development of project scope, schedule, capital cost estimates, execution planning, risks, and supporting information for assigned facility projects.
  • Ensure all facilities are designed in accordance with regulations, industry codes, and corporate standards.
  • Manage the execution of design deliverables by third-party engineering firms, ensuring alignment with project budgets and schedules.
  • Review and approve design deliverables, including drawings, technical reports, and material listing sheets.
  • Evaluate vendor material quotations, conduct technical bid evaluations, and recommend selections based on technical merit, price, and delivery.
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain to procure materials using internal tools.
  • Incorporate lessons learned from past projects into future designs.
  • Provide technical support to the Construction team during construction phases.
  • Offer technical guidance to junior engineers and support department initiatives as required.
  • Ensure project scope definitions comply with regulatory, environmental, health, and safety requirements.
  • Support peers and senior staff in facilitating business initiatives and legal compliance.

Scope And Dimensions

  • Responsible for the successful operations of the assigned area with significant corporate financial impact.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of technical solutions, ensuring efficient coordination of technical resources and stakeholders.
  • Provide informal leadership to peers.

Working Relationships

  • Interact weekly with the Project Manager to update on progress, cost, schedule, and risk.
  • Provide project status updates to the Supervisor, Facilities Project Engineering on a weekly to bi-weekly basis.
  • Engage daily with external engineering firms to oversee project design activities.
  • Communicate weekly with Operations to update on project status and seek guidance on design features.

Required

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Engineering degree in an applicable discipline.
  • 7 years of progressively responsible experience in engineering and project management.

Preferred

  • Professional Engineer designation.
  • Demonstrated ability to innovate, initiate, and manage change.
  • Capability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to resolve complex issues using technical and business knowledge.
  • Awareness of interrelationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Effective communication of technical issues to both technical and non-technical staff.

Working Conditions

  • Office environment with potential for above-normal stress levels due to deadline-oriented project work.
  • Overnight business trips to the field may be required, necessitating the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
