Financial Controller (On-Site | Indianapolis, IN – South Side)

A large, well-established union with offices and locals across three states is seeking a mission-aligned Financial Controller to lead and manage the financial operations of a complex, multi-entity organization. This is a confidential search, but the opportunity is ideal for a strategic finance professional looking to make a meaningful impact while working in a collaborative and values-driven environment.


About the Role

Reporting directly to executive leadership, the Financial Controller will oversee all accounting, financial reporting, compliance, and budgeting functions. You will lead a small team and work closely with colleagues across departments and locations to ensure financial transparency, integrity, and strategic alignment.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing day-to-day accounting operations and month-end close
  • Managing multi-entity budgets and financial reporting
  • Ensuring compliance with applicable state and federal regulations, labor law reporting, and union-specific financial requirements
  • Coordinating audits and tax filings
  • Developing internal controls and financial policies
  • Supporting leadership with forecasting, financial analysis, and decision-making
  • Partnering with local union offices to ensure consistent financial practices across states


Who You Are

You are a highly organized and detail-oriented finance leader with experience managing complex accounting operations. You bring a mix of analytical skills, clear communication, and a deep sense of integrity to your work. Experience with union or nonprofit finance, or multi-entity structures is highly valued.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA preferred)
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting experience
  • Experience in multi-entity reporting, or union-related financial management strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial controls
  • Experience managing and mentoring staff
  • Proficiency in accounting systems and Microsoft Excel


Location

This is a fully on-site position based on the south side of Indianapolis. Some travel may be required to support offices in other states.
