We do this through Advancing Policy, Strengthening Communities, and Honoring the Legacy of our Ancestors. We engage the community, law enforcement, and policymakers to identify, prevent, and confront racial inequities in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and across the country.
Position Purpose
The Director of Strategy & Operations is the internal anchor of the Foundation—responsible for the systems, infrastructure, and workflows that keep our work moving with clarity and care. They oversee budgeting, HR, grant compliance, internal communications, and evaluation. This role is ideal for someone who thrives behind the scenes, translating big vision into detailed execution and sustainable infrastructure.
The ideal candidate is an operational thinker who understands how to align people, processes, and resources to support long-term impact. They will work closely with the Executive Director and Director of Movement & Programs to build a strong foundation for our team and mission to grow.

Responsibilities / Essential Duties
- Oversee day-to-day internal operations including finance, contracts, HR, and compliance
- Manage organizational and program budgets in collaboration with the ED and external finance partners
- Develop and maintain internal systems that support collaboration, documentation, and project management
- Lead organizational planning processes and monitor progress toward strategic goals
- Support board reporting, meeting prep, and long-term planning efforts
- Oversee internal communication workflows and cross-functional coordination
- Ensure grant compliance, reporting systems, and data infrastructure are maintained
- Support hiring, onboarding, and professional development systems
- Collaborate with the ED on evaluation, measurement, and organizational learning
- Contribute to a culture of equity, transparency, and accountability within the team
- 7+ years of experience in nonprofit management, operations, or strategy
- Strong understanding of budgeting, financial reports, and grants compliance
- Demonstrated ability to manage internal systems, tools, and infrastructure
- Experience supervising staff or managing projects across departments
- Skilled communicator who brings clarity and calm to fast-paced work
- Committed to equity and building systems that support people and mission
- Familiarity with Tulsa’s nonprofit or philanthropic ecosystem a plus
- You understand the mission of the foundation and have a deep appreciation of race, class, and gender dynamics through both lived and professional experience.
- Ability to appropriately understand the intentions and preferences of executives you support and represent, and effectively anticipate issues and navigate actions to proactively manage and facilitate processes and schedules accordingly.
- You have demonstrated strength and competency in building rapport and trusting relationships with a wide variety of people, organizations, and communities.
- You possess the emotional maturity to handle complex power dynamics, to facilitate and coordinate activities among varied stakeholder groups and to keep a level head and be respectful at all times especially in delicate and charged environments.
- You maintain a positive attitude even in high stress situations and have strength of character, integrity and resolve to move forward.
