About the role: In this role, you will provide administrative support to our Vice President, Chief Information Security Officer. You will utilize your organizational skills to provide a broad scope of leadership support to this leader and thier team by carrying out your operational responsibilities and objectives in a dynamic, enthusiastic environment. You will take independent actions following established procedures with limited supervision and provide support on several fronts, including, but not limited to, calendar and time management, project support, employee and contractor onboarding, scheduling complex meetings, planning, budgeting, coordinating, and researching.

This role is based in our Des Moines, Iowa office with a hybrid schedule: Mondays and Fridays remote, and Tuesday through Thursday onsite.

Job Description

As an Actuarial Analyst II, you will be responsible for providing analysis and recommendations for your assigned market segments. Prepare and review actuarial material for rate filings (including rate indications), and partner with Product Development/Underwriting to develop rate justification supporting new and existing products.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Actuarial Science or related field.
  • Passed at least one (1) of the core exams as administered/recognized by the Society of Actuaries
  • Minimum 1-year experience in an actuarial related role. Candidate must have experience in data analysis, actuarial concepts, and computer programming skills (either from employment or an academic setting)
  • Desire to develop in the actuarial profession through self-study and successful completion of actuarial exams
  • Experience with at least one coding language/statistical package (such as SQL, Python, R, SAS, Emblem, JAVA)
  • Proven ability to organize and analyze data. Ability to develop predictive models to solve business problems, interpret the model results, turn data into actionable insights, and effectively communicate model results
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills. Should be able to present to business or technical partners. Ability to effectively present recommendations and supporting analysis to business partners
  • Enjoy researching, analyzing, and evaluating complex data independently and within a collaborative environment while meeting deadlines
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and technical aptitude to learn new systems quickly and produce ad hoc reports. Strong Excel skills; an interest in coding/automation and experience with SQL

Preferred:

  • Successful completion of at least 3 actuarial exams preferred
  • 2-6 years of actuarial experience preferred
  • Experience with Radar preferred
  • Experience in actuarial ratemaking techniques and state rate filings preferred
  • Previous experience in the health insurance industry

Additional Information

  • Provide analysis and recommendations for assigned market segment(s), with the goal of achieving corporate profitability objectives through specifically assigned analysis projects. Maintain and forecast needed rate increases by assigned market segments.
  • Provide dependable, accurate, and timely information regarding rates, trends, rating factors and formulas to support internal stakeholder functions (e.g. Underwriting, Product Development), as assigned. Calculate benefit rating factors for specific group or member populations. Consult on various issues related to rating of specific groups or benefits.
  • Provide comprehensive and timely data analysis of health care trends and financial measures with summary conclusions, with direction, and as assigned. Collaborate and partner with Business Analytics staff regarding data analysis for assigned work.
  • Support statutory rate filings by compiling data, completing experience studies and forecasting results. Use data validation and research methodologies that meet established actuarial guidelines for statistical accuracy and that will produce reasonable results.
  • Perform peer review activities; including reviewing data, formulas and calculations for others as needed to validate work products completed.
  • Calculate adequate unpaid claims liabilities, with direction, as assigned. Provide information as needed for financial reporting (e.g. reserves, annual statement exhibits).
  • Utilize legislative and regulatory knowledge to provide technical input regarding changes or business impacts.
  • Assist with consulting to internal and external stakeholders regarding project related initiatives.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation related to standard operating procedures as well as routine and special projects.
  • Serve as an actuarial resource for corporate or departmental process improvement initiatives.
  • With direction, provide benefit cost information for various legislative initiatives. Provide technical input on changes to new and existing regulations and rules. Interpret how regulatory and legislative changes may affect business and develop impact analyses.
  • Other duties as assigned.
