We are hiring for one permanent, full-time position located at the ODFW headquarters in Salem, Oregon.
We are seeking a forward-thinking, experienced, and collaborative Chief Information Officer (CIO) to lead our technology strategy and operations. This is a high-impact, executive-level role that combines strategic vision with hands-on leadership in driving digital transformation across the agency.
What you will do:
As the agency’s CIO, you will:
- Serve as ODFW’s chief technology strategist, representing the agency in partnerships with other state agencies, organizations, and entities through collaborative information exchange, planning, and implementation.
- Lead the development and execution of an agency-wide strategic technology plan that supports ODFW’s mission and operational goals.
- Direct IT governance, organization-wide project portfolio management, and delivery of high-priority and cross-functional technology initiatives.
- Oversee a team of IT managers, project managers, analysts, and developers responsible for systems architecture, application development, business analysis, and IT support services.
- Manage contracts with vendors and consultants delivering critical IT services and organization-wide solutions.
- Ensure compliance with federal and state IT security, data protection, and technology standards.
- Regularly engage with internal stakeholders from field biologists to executive leaders translating business needs into future-ready technology solutions.

What we are looking for:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Seven years of lead work, supervision, or progressively related experience;
OR
- Four years of related experience and a Bachelor’s degree in field related to information technology.
Desired Attributes:
We’re especially interested in candidates with:
- Proven experience in IT strategic planning and organization-level project governance.
- Demonstrated success leading and delivering complex, cross-functional IT projects.
- Strong technical expertise in application development, IT security, networking, and systems integration.
- Experience managing and supervising high-performing technology teams.
- Familiarity with public sector IT environments and contract/vendor management.
- Skilled communicator able to translate complex technology concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences and transform business needs into actionable technology solutions.
- A customer-focused problem solver who thrives under pressure, adapts quickly to change, and consistently meets multiple deadlines.
