Are you a seasoned process engineer with a passion for leadership and innovation? Eichleay is seeking a Process Engineering Department Manager to lead a high-performing team in delivering innovative, multi-disciplinary projects across the Western United States. In this strategic role, you’ll not only guide and mentor a talented team of process engineers, but you will also actively contribute to project execution, ensuring technical excellence and client satisfaction.

This is a hands-on leadership role, ideal for someone who excels at both guiding a team and actively performing work. This position allows for remote work. The role may be based in a home office located within 50 miles of Eichleay’s Orange, CA office, or from one of Eichleay's offices in Larkspur, CA; Billings, MT; Ferndale, WA. Alternatively, we will consider applicants who can perform the role remotely from a state where the company operates in the Western US (CA, CO, ID, MT, NV, WA). Please note that any remote role will require travel.

Compensation: $160,000 – $220,000 *anticipated annual salary may vary based on skills, experience, qualifications, location and internal peer equity. The pay range listed for this position is based on the anticipated base compensation at the time of the posting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise a team of process engineers; manage project assignments and team priorities. Support a variety of projects that may include greenfield, brownfield, and revamp projects across diverse industries. Responsible for meeting department utilization targets.
  • Meet regularly with other Department Managers to promote collaboration across departments and strategize on overall goals related to business and capability growth.
  • Conduct regular team meetings to share updates, recognize achievements, and provide feedback.
  • Ensure quality control is performed on projects and resolve any project quality issues promptly. Present any lessons learned to the organization.
  • Set clear expectations for the process team on budget/change management, schedule adherence, and technical quality.
  • Drive performance management, succession planning, and employee development within your team.
  • Manages resources across multiple locations, including technical oversight for seconded staff.
  • Oversee the interviewing and hiring process for new team members, ensuring recruitment of top engineering talent to support ongoing and future projects.
  • Collaborate with the business development team to enhance capabilities and develop unique value propositions. Influence business development strategies, contribute to proposal efforts, and help evolve our engineering capabilities to meet the changing needs of our clients.
  • Build relationships and interact regularly with clients, vendors, contractors, and consultants.
  • Develop high quality and competitively priced proposals that meet client expectations.
  • Promote a culture of safety, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Job Requirements

  • Experience: 15+ years of experience in process engineering, with experience leading complex, multi-discipline projects. Minimum of 5 years of experience as a supervising engineer.
  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
  • Location: Reside within 50 miles of Eichleay’s Orange, CA office (preferred), or from one of Eichleay's offices in Larkspur, CA; Billings, MT; Ferndale, WA. Alternatively, we will consider applicants who can perform the role remotely from a state where the company operates in the Western US (CA, CO, ID, MT, NV, WA).   • Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, interacting effectively with all levels of employees to achieve company and project goals. Demonstrated ability and desire to oversee, manage, and grow a technical department.

Technical Competence

  • Extensive and diversified knowledge of chemical engineering principles and facility operations (refinery, chemical, power and/or life sciences).
  • Able to identify, communicate, and drive value creation through innovative engineering and design approaches on projects.
  • Ability to develop standards, procedures, protocols, project cost estimates, project schedules, and task breakdowns.
  • Safety: Demonstrates awareness and commitment to health, safety, and environmental issues. Addresses those issues as necessary to ensure zero harm to all employees, clients, and contractors with zero environmental incidents.
  • Collaboration: Ability to form and foster collaborative relationships within Eichleay and with clients and partners.

Travel

  • Occasionally travel to Eichleay offices and client sites across the Western US (up to 25%)

Preferred Skills/Experience

  • Professional Engineer (PE) Certification preferred

This role may require all or some of the following requirements at time of hire or during employment (as applicable):

  • Client cGMP and Sterile Area Training and current badge or ability to obtain.
  • RSO Safety Training and current card or ability to obtain.
  • Client Safety Training and current badge or ability to obtain.
  • TWIC Certification and current card or ability to obtain.
  • Background screening including previous employment, education, criminal history, and driving record verification.
  • Participation in random drug and alcohol program.

  • Job duties may be performed at a Client’s office, client site, production facility or industrial/construction job site. Day to day job direction will typically be lead by our Clients designated project leader.
  • Conditions and/or schedule will vary at each Client location, but the conditions listed above will generally apply.
  • Candidates will be required to follow our clients' site based rules and protocols regarding infectious diseases.
