Probation and Parole Officer I $36.43 - $46.48

Probation and Parole Officer II $42.17 - $56.51 (Must be DPSST Certified for Probation and Parole at time of hire)

Washington County Community Corrections is now hiring a highly collaborative and supportive individual to join our team as a Probation and Parole Officer (PPO). An essential function of this role will be supporting a caseload of people from various backgrounds. A successful candidate must possess lived and/or professional experiences working with a variety of individuals from diverse backgrounds.

About The Department

Washington County Community Corrections serves an important role in keeping our community safe. This department works to prevent the recurrence of crime among adult Justice Involved Individuals (JIIs) by holding them accountable to the conditions of their supervision while supporting their efforts to live successfully in the community. Community Corrections supervises approximately 2,800 individuals using a range of evidence-based strategies while working in partnership with the Courts, Police Agencies, and the Oregon State Board of Parole and Post-Prison Supervision. Duties Of This Position Include

  • Interviews adult justice involved individuals (JIIs) on probation or parole to assess offender needs and risk; assesses social, emotional, and economic status; refers JIIs to community agencies as needed; provide guidance to JIIs on probation/parole procedures, personal problems, and establishment of personal goals and plans; and confers with JIIs’ families and collateral sources of information.
  • Maintains regular contact with JIIs and monitors their activities; provides continuing assessment and intervention according to the JIIs’ needs and progress; monitors progress in meeting probation/parole conditions such as fines, restitution, enrollment in drug or alcohol treatment programs; and contacts service agencies, employers, and JIIs’ families.
  • Assists in creating a positive and supportive work environment; enforces a safe workplace; establishes a culture of teamwork and communication; creates a workplace that promotes the organizational values of workplace diversity, equity and inclusion and actively promotes an environment respectful of living and working in a multicultural society.
  • Writes reports related to compliance and confers with courts on JIIs; reports violations and changes in status; and writes early termination and bench probation requests to courts.
  • Prepares presentence reports for courts; makes recommendations on sentencing requirements; performs transfer, abscond, and other investigations on JIIs.
  • Attends court hearings; documents, testifies, and makes recommendations at probation/parole compliance and presentence hearings.
  • Maintains records of cases including interviews, assessments, services provided, and probation/parole progress.
  • Participates in service resource development for JIIs treatment and in-service evaluation programs.
  • Participates in search and arrest situations under the guidance and oversight of a Probation and Parole Officer II or supervisor.

The Probation and Parole Officer I performs probation and parole counseling with adult justice involved individuals (JIIs); conducts needs assessments and develops probation plans; monitors probation and parole compliance and maintains caseload records; and participates in search and arrest of JIIs under the guidance of a Probation and Parole Officer II or supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in any concentration, AND Three (3) years of experience in corrections, criminal justice, counseling, social work, or a related field; OR
  • Associate’s degree in any concentration, AND Four (4) years of experience in corrections, criminal justice, counseling, social work, or a related field; OR
  • High School Diploma or equivalent, AND Five (5) years of experience in corrections, criminal justice, counseling, social work, or a related field.

Possession of a Bachelor’s degree in corrections, criminal justice, counseling, social work, or a related field may substitute for two (2) years of required work experience.

Position Specific Requirements

Final candidates will be required to meet the following requirements:

  • Must pass a comprehensive background investigation.
  • Must possess a driver's license valid in the State of Oregon and have an acceptable driving record.
  • Must acquire and maintain CPR and first aid certification.
  • Must be a US citizen, or become a US citizen within 18 months of hire.
  • Must pass a post-offer physical capacity test, psychological evaluation, and the DPSST pre-employment medical exam prior to appointment.
