Who We Are At Osmo

Osmo is a digital olfaction company, on a mission to give computers a sense of smell to improve the health and wellbeing of human life. Why? Our sense of smell both enriches and saves lives, and has a deep and direct connection to our emotions and memory. This foundational understanding of smell's impact has directly informed the development of our latest innovation: Generation.

Generation is a new kind of fragrance house powered by Olfactory Intelligence (OI) to blend AI with world-class perfumery. It will help brands create emotionally resonant scents faster, more accessibly, and with greater creative clarity. Our technology allows us to explore vast scent possibilities, discover novel ingredients, and design fragrances informed by both data and artistry.

Beyond fragrance, Olfactory Intelligence has applications across industries including manufacturing, security, medicine, and more. We believe in the power of automation and thoughtfully applied AI/ML to solve problems beyond the reach of human intuition alone. Osmo is headquartered in New York, NY, with a new facility in New Jersey, and offices in Somerville, MA.

Osmo is seeking a Systems Administrator who will take full ownership of IT infrastructure, security, and network. You will integrate and manage systems within lab, factory, and office environments, ensuring they meet rigorous standards for data security and regulatory compliance. This role includes hands on IT support along with strategic oversight of IT operations across three locations (NY, NJ, MA) and a distributed workforce, focusing on automation, security, and system efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • IT Infrastructure & Network Administration: Deploy, configure, and maintain IT infrastructure across lab, factory, and office environments, with a focus on network performance, availability, and security for both onsite and remote users.
  • Network Management & Troubleshooting: Administer and support LAN/WAN infrastructure, firewalls, VPNs, switches, wireless access points, and routers. Diagnose and resolve network performance issues, outages, and security incidents.
  • Help Desk & End-User Support: Provide Tier 2/3 support for network and systems-related issues impacting employees, contractors, and vendors. Troubleshoot connectivity problems and escalate complex incidents as needed.
  • System Monitoring & Best Practices: Monitor network and server systems for performance, reliability, and security using appropriate tools. Enforce IT operational standards and best practices across environments.
  • Compliance Support: Maintain compliant network and system environments aligned with standards such as ISO 2700x, NIST, PCI-DSS, GDPR, HIPAA, and CCPA.
  • System Integration & Automation: Assist with the integration of new systems and services into existing environments, supporting efforts to automate network and system tasks for efficiency and scalability.
  • Device & Endpoint Security: Manage and secure company devices and endpoints (macOS, Windows, iOS) using MDM solutions; ensure endpoint consistency and enforce security policies across networks.
  • Risk Assessment & Mitigation: Participate in security risk assessments for network and system infrastructure; contribute to the development and implementation of solutions to reduce exposure and strengthen controls.
  • Vendor & Third-Party Collaboration: Support onboarding and technical coordination with third-party vendors, contractors, and managed service providers related to network and system services.

  • 3+ years of experience as a Systems Administrator or Network Administrator in diverse IT environments, preferably in startups or fast-growing companies.
  • Strong knowledge of network technologies including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, VLANs, firewalls, and wireless networks.
  • Hands-on experience with network hardware (firewalls, switches, routers, wireless APs) and system administration (Windows Server, Linux, macOS).
  • Familiarity with network and system monitoring tools (e.g., Nagios, Zabbix, PRTG).
  • Exposure to scripting languages (e.g., Bash, PowerShell, Python) for system and network automation.
  • Understanding of data protection, privacy concepts, and compliance frameworks.
  • Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Network+, Security+, or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications (Nice To Have)

  • Experience with cloud networking in platforms.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code (e.g., Terraform, Ansible) and automation tools.
  • Background in supporting multi-site or hybrid (on-premises/cloud) network environments.
