Job Title: Head of Procurement

Job Description Summary: Leads a Procurement organization, defines and implements Procurement strategy, initiatives, standards and guidelines in area of responsibility.

Job Description: Deploys Procurement strategy. Defines and ensures implementation of Procurement standards, regulations and guidelines. Manages and contributes to overarching SCM/ Procurement programs and initiatives. Takes care for effective risk management measures. Ensures efficiency of Procurement operations. Defines and optimizes the Procurement unit organization in alignment with Global Head of Procurement, takes final decision on unit related budgets and decides resource allocation. Responsible for Purchasing Volume, DR/FTE and related other KPIs. Negotiates and seals strategic Procurement related contract agreements. Heads organization assigned and leads all related management and staff. Acts as personal advisor to unit's Executives and Senior Management in all Procurement-related issues.

As the Procurement Head you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the entire strategic and operational purchasing teams responsibilities.


Key Responsibilities:

Team Leadership:

  • Provide robust leadership, fostering a collaborative and goal-oriented work environment to achieve operational excellence.
  • Cultivate a collaborative work environment between the purchasing team and other departments for seamless coordination and enhanced overall performance.
  • Coach staff and support individuals in realizing their potential and achieving growth.

Planning, hiring and development of (new) employees:

  • Determine department staffing requirements based on current and future purchasing demands and business conditions in alignment with Flender Group Function.
  • Implement appropriate training procedures and continuously update team of new strategies, rules & regulations in line with Flender Group Function.
  • Assure compliancy with business conduct- and correct-buying-guidelines as well as utilization of Flender Group procurement tools (e.g. COUPA, Jaggaer, SoftconCis, FAC, etc..).

Negotiates prices and contracts with suppliers:

  • Manages all aspects of the RFQ process, contracts, cost and rebate negotiations, and awarding of business.
  • Manage weekly/monthly KPI requirements and provide updates on supply chain.
  • Establish streamlined order processing procedures for all products, eliminating paperwork and repeat orders.
  • Establishes and implements annual cost saving initiatives to further drive company profitability.

Developing and managing supplier relationships to improve supplier performance and assure a competitive supplier portfolio:

  • Develops a purchasing strategy that meets the business needs of the company and advocates the local business requirements to global commodity managers to be considered in their approaches and deliverables.
  • Define/Identify, qualify and develop a supplier portfolio for the Procurement unit. Maintain and visit suppliers as necessary to develop/strengthen supply chain relations and assure supplier performance improvement measures are defined where necessary.

Evaluates critical supply needs and develops appropriate supply chain:

  • Continuously reviews product and machining requirements and determines what new suppliers are required.
  • Employs vendor risk management assessment tools for improvement of existing or replacement of suppliers.


Required/Preferred Knowledge Skills, Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in Supply Chain Management or other related field.
  • Min. (10) Years purchasing management experience; preferably in industrial manufacturing supply chain.
  • Possess technical knowledge of industrial equipment, preferably gearboxes or other power transmission equipment.
  • Ability to perform complex financial and data analysis.
  • Team player with ability to perform and prioritize multiple, simultaneous tasks while maintaining excellent supplier relations.
  • Good communications skills to communicate with internal and external suppliers effectively and accurately.
  • Proficient PC skills including Microsoft Office tools, Outlook, SAP (a plus) & Teamcenter (a plus).
  • Familiarity with ANSI, ISO, DIN and ASME standards.
  • Good leadership abilities and self-motivated with a results-driven approach.
  • Good coaching and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
