Description

We are currently searching for a Construction Services Assistant to join our Champaign-Urbana Region Construction/Renovation Team within our Construction Management Department. The ideal candidate will embody Fairlawn’s core values: Be Kind, Own It, Be Flexible, and Always Improve. The overall objectives for this role will be to assist with remodeling and make ready duties across a wide range of property types, while providing top notch customer service. The ideal candidate will have superior attention to detail and the ability to assist with a wide range of work activities.

What will you do?

  • Exemplify the core values of Be Kind, Be Flexible, Own It, and Always Improve
  • Maintain a clean job area, move appliances, organize tools, and maintain job trailer
  • Run to stores, supply houses, and lumberyards for tools and materials
  • Help unload trucks, store and stock materials
  • Clean up after skilled-trade team members
  • Use small tools and equipment
  • Participate in residence turnover including direct participation in turning and cleaning units
  • Assist with the installation of fixtures as needed to move-in ready, renovated apartments
  • Assist with a wide range of repairs
  • Maintain good rapport with current and prospective residents
  • Follow company policies regarding necessary approvals for any job-related expenditures
  • Comply with all OSHA regulations and any applicable laws regarding health, safety, or environment
  • Learn and comply with all Fair Housing rules (we provide training!)
  • Pivot, roll up your sleeves, and jump in where needed!

Requirements

Who you are – We’d love to hear from you if you:

  • Have at least one year of working in construction or trades
  • Have a High School diploma or GED
  • Are proficient with relevant technology and can easily adapt to changing technology
  • Have excellent verbal communication skills
  • Have superior attention to detail, high energy, and a positive attitude
  • Can work independently and work closely with other team members
  • Have the ability to work overtime as needed during high-demand times and capacity shortages
  • Have ethical and professional conduct and integrity beyond reproach

Some Additional Things You Will Need

  • Valid driver’s license and dependable vehicle
  • Availability to work longer hours and weekends during prime leasing season and turnover
  • Being physically able to access all parts of residential and commercial structures (e.g., rooftops, attics, crawl spaces)
  • Must be able to complete the physical functions of the position, including the ability to lift/move up to 50lbs
  • Spend long periods of time standing, pushing, pulling, lifting, and bending
  • Ability to climb multiple levels of stairs carrying supplies and debris throughout the day
  • Willingness to work outside in all weather conditions
