Project Background:

The Hermit's Peak/Calf Canyon Fire Assistance Program was established under the Hermit's Peak Fire Assistance Act (H.R. 7721) to compensate individuals, businesses, nonprofits, and government entities impacted by the 2022 wildfire and subsequent flooding in New Mexico. Administered by FEMA through a dedicated Claims Office, the program manages over 20,000 Notices of Loss and 30,000 Proofs of Loss. Contractors will support FEMA in delivering timely, accurate, and claimant-focused services, including administrative support, site inspections, appeals processing, and compensation recommendations, in alignment with federal guidance.

Job Description: Claims Reviewer / Quality Control Specialist / Appeals Specialist

This role supports the Hermit's Peak/Calf Canyon Fire Assistance Program by reviewing, verifying, and processing claims related to property damage and economic loss. Responsibilities include evaluating documentation for accuracy, ensuring compliance with federal policies, identifying errors, and supporting appeals. The position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in claims management systems. Clear communication with claimants, FEMA staff, and stakeholders is essential.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Ability to understand and interpret complex federal policy language, including relevant statutes, regulations, policies, guidance, and directives.
  • Disaster-related knowledge and background to accurately assess losses, damages, required repairs, and replacement costs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to clearly explain policies and regulations to claimants, FEMA staff, and other stakeholders
  • Proficiency in:
    • Claims management software
    • Databases
    • Documentation tools
    • Other technologies used in claims processing and communication
Qualifications

Education & Certification:

  • High School Diploma required
  • NFIP (National Flood Insurance Program) Certification required

Experience:

  • Senior Level: Minimum of 10 years of combined experience in claim/case processing roles, including:
    • Customer service
    • Data entry
    • Reviewing and evaluating various types of disaster-related losses
    • Mid Level: Minimum of 5 years of combined experience in similar roles
